Hello, Considering I'm going to go with a mail order PCM from Nelson I was looking for cam suggestions for my 99 step side. Street/strip fair wheather toy.
following mods;

Intake-KN
stock MAF- (I have another one that's descreened but put a stock one back in.)
stock TB w/bypass
asp crank pulley-electric fan
AZ headers with no cats and simms
BBtriflo Dual behind single muffler catback
NGK tr55- magnacores
Yank Torque Thruster 3000 stall
Built 4l60e-bands,sungear,Hardened input/output shaft,5 P.Planets etc..
Billet servos-Superior(no shift kit)- firm enough
Aluminum Denny's Driveshaft
Eaton HD Posi with GM 4.10's
Rear tires are 305/45-18 Nitto 555R 28.5" tall.
Full suspension with Caltracs.
**No nos planned
and If ever get seriuos maybe a Radix-prolly not.

I was thinking only because from what I read
212/218-522/29-114
But since I'm getting it tuned 216/220 525/32 114?

Nelson, What cams have you tuned for with my similiar setup?
Thanks

I have the same question and add the higher lift/RPM cam in the mix too.

why do most 5.3/4.8 guys go with smaller(only a comparison to LS1's) cams like the 212/218 cams? ive never seen a truck with a bigger cam like 230/230? is it just coincidence most of em wanna retain gas mileage?

just curious?

and i agree with agriefs choice out of the cams mentioned.

Now that's what the hell I'm talking about, lol. A big cam (compared to most opinions) in a big ass truck Your truck runs awesome, and I love how you put a big cam in your truck and didn't loose any power across the entire rpm range, most think this big cam would be slow in a big truck. Thanks for giving me the opp. to tune it. btw, email me some of those badass vids, you can show everyone how strong it is.

I've tuned quite a bit of trucks with very mild to aggressive cams, the one you mentioned is fairly small, are you concerned about having a tame daily driver?
How about a mid 500 lift cam, with something around 224. I've done a few of these cams, and if you weren't into trucks you would never know that it had a cam. It's very streetable.

That cam and a tune will give you about .5 secs in the 1/4, asking for more than that is not unreasonable. I tuned a truck with just an ls1 cam in a 99 truck with a tune, and went down to a 15.5 from a 16.1.

Thanks,

allen

That's a good cam, go for it, you won't regret it. It'll be very streetable and make very good power from idle to at least 6300rpms.

This is the the kind of advise I'm looking for, I have know experience with cams in these trucks so I can only figure on what I have read.

I only drive it in nice wheather so a Big cam/Big gain is what I'm looking for.
I have the stall and gears and shorter tires(28.5)

*222/224 .566-.568 112lsa would tuning be better with a 114?

or go with blk6.0 cam?
224/232 .558/68 112- is this a custom cam?

I just saw your sig, I think on that 99 with a tune and a cam, you'll be mid 13's. That would be awesome.

The 115 is going to be easier to tune, but that's up to you, there is some sacrifice on streetability, but you'll get a nice sound with the 112.

keep us updated,

allen

Like Allen said tuning will be easier with the 115lsa. I drive my truck everyday and after tuning i have no problems at all. The biggest problem was getting it to idle, but like i said after the tuning, it drives like it did without the cam. Its funny to see how people react when you pull up in a big truck that sounds like a muscle car .
