Hello all who have aftermarket cams,

Does anyone tow with their cams and how do they act, are they still ok or does it even make a difference?

let me know how your trucks tow and what size cam you have.

I am going with a comp 224/230 with 581/588 lift on a 114 or maybe....
    a comp 222/224 with 566/568 on 112

Which cam do you guys think will make the most power in my truck, I have ls1 with bolt ons and truck intake!!

I will tow a couple four wheelers every now and then which id say will be ok....but I might possibly take the ss camaro to the track with it, just wanting some opinions from those of you who have tried it!

    thanks to all in advance

How much does the trailer (trailer + Camaro on it) weigh? Around 5.5k lbs? You should look into a cam with a lower lift. A .588 is a little high if you are doing some towing. There are cams called "RV cams" that have extremely low duration numbers so that the motor makes most of it's power in the low RPMS. RV's, 4WD's, Rock crawlers, etc all like to use those cams. If you find a good mid-range custom grind cam, you can have a few degrees of advanced timing (+3 or +4) put on it so that the power comes in a little sooner. Check out this website The Vinci 065 is a great cam for towing and performance.

    Cool

Either cams will suck for towing. Drop duration down to something more sensible such as:

212/216 .520 112LSA, 110ICL. Good powerful truck cam, more TQ pull better on high end. No need for monster lift, there isn't enough to be gained with it to warrant the crazy valve action. Head pick up maybe 13-18cfm from .500 to .550, that's not much.

I know someone that over cam'd their 5.3 and got beat by a stock cam'd 6.0, both trucks had about similar mods. 3.42:1 gears, etc. Oh, the 6.0 had a 2200 stall and the 5.3 had a 3k too...

Biggest cam doesn't mean you'll be the quickest.
