Okay, I realize this topic has been beat to death...but not for the Tahoe/Yukon folks. When I tow, the I can't seem to break 60 mph without going into 2nd. I tow a 26' travel trailer with my Yukon 5 times a year. The trailer weighs 5000lbs. I tow various other items but with a utility trailer. I would like to upgrade my 3.73's to 4.10's very soon. Our trucks (as you know) ride very quiet at highway speeds due to RPM. How much RPM will I gain with the 4.10's? Also, in your opinion, is it a worth while mod? Yes I will be tuning with Nelson if I do the swap. My next post will be about beefing up the 4L60e. But for right now I am just trying to justify the 4.10's and tuning. Thanks all.

Upgrade it! My 4.10's were a good improvement. Out the whole harder! I can pull much better too. What size rims and tires makes a factor too. I am now swapping too 4.56's due to my 22's and bigger tire combination.

hmm... what type of gas mileage are you getting w/o towing w/ 3.73s? Just curious b/c w/ 3.42s in my '02, I get a max of 16 hwy (which happens to be the EPA-rated max). I drive my Kon on a daily 100-mile commute to & from work. I did notice that my pickup w/ 4.10s & a 5.3L/4L60E combo yielded 19mpg (w/o a working lockup).

I am not worried about my MPG's that much. I am mainly talking about cabin noise from the change in change in RPM and also the in and out of lockup and/or downshifting associated with the 3.73's. I will drive it today and get back with my RPM numbers, but I think at 70 mph, I am about 1800. (approx). That is without towing.

Okay, at 70 mph I am turning just shy of 2000 RPM. What can I expect from the 4.10's? Also, does the 87-89 tune from Nelson remove TM or do you have to specify how much to remove?

Well as far as the cabin noise level it depends on what kind of exhaust you have. If its stock you won't hardly notice. Muffler type and tip size and positioning change things too. I have Flowmasters and they are very sensetive to rpm and load to how much noise.

I am all stock in teh exhaust department. Too many to choose from. Trial and error on exhaust can be mega $, so i will wait a little while longer after more research. I guess the decision has been made then...4.10's and a tune. Thanks all. I will post next week when I get all of that done.

Nice wheels gearhead, those are the ones I have. Do you know where to get the polished ones? (they look chrome)

With 28" tall tires, 4.10s, stock 4L60E... my C10 was recently turning ~2500rpm at 70mph.

    With 30" tall tires, 3.42s, stock 4L65E... my Kon turns 1800 - 1900 rpms at 70mph.

Gear sizes obviously affects revs... how much does tire size factor in (if any)?
