I HAVE JUST INQUIRED ABOUT A 4L80E TRANS. FROM FLT LEVEL4. I HAVE A DUMB QUESTION. CAN THE FIRST TWO GEARS BE CHANGED OUT TO MATCH THE GEARS IN A 4L60E? THE 4L80E HAS A 1ST GEAR F 2.48 TO 1 AND A SECOND GEAR OF 1.48 TO 1 WHILE THE 4L60E HAS A 1ST GEAR OF 3.059 TO 1 AND A 2ND GEAR OF 1.625 TO 1. IS THIS FEASABLE? IS THIS WHY IT TAKES SO MUCH HP TO TURN A 4L80E?

If you are under 600 lb-ft of torque I would stick with the 65e, because of the better 1st & 2nd ratios; those 80e's eat a lot of hp.

this is what was in another thread down in mechanical talking about either an 80e or 65e from FLT... i dont know if that helps... but it kind of pertains to what your talking about'

as for being interchangable, i wouldnt know

John Kilgore's planetary gear set is the 2.75 or the 3.00 first gear. 2nd gear also changes. It will be almost identical to what the 60e is.

Does it really matter with a higher stall converter and all that torque you have, hahah.

Sounds like a good solution James. Is your current one giving out or are you just planning ahead?

    see ya,

PLANNING AHEAD. HEE HEE. JUST FOUND OUT THAT MY CERTAIN TRANS WILL ONLY HOLD THE GEARS THAT ARE IN IT. THE NEWER ONES HAVE THE ABILITY TO CHANGE THE GEARS. I HOPE THE 3200 YANK STALL DOES THE TRICK?
