The first one is a replacement for the internals of your stock carrier. I would replace the entire carrier due to the fact that the stock carrier has been known to grenade.

The second one won't work because the early housings used a smaller bearing.

You can use an Auburn if you get the correct one. I had an Eaton in mine before I switched the rear end to a DANA 60.

Auburn or Eaton is personal preference. I prefer the Eaton.

Place a request in the parts wanted section here and see if you get any bites.

Ok I found an auburn unit I think. I am missing something here maybe. I keep getting 2 different responses. some say if the description says 8.5 10 bolt that all I have to do is get different bearings. but others say it will not fit how do I differentiate????

like this one??

You got three treads going on this same subject...As I suggested before here is a good place to buy an
Eaton LSD for for your truck:
The follow is the part number and everything.
You will need a new crush sleeve ...You will have to order new carrier bearings which he has (b/c the eaton requires different bearings i think larger can't remember why for sure). i was able to reuse my pinion bearing. The new eaton setup perfectly with my original shims but make sure you keep the left and right shims on the correct side..... I got lucky, you may want to buy a shim kit just in case. Also i was able to reuse the cover gasket.

EATON LSD (GM 8.5" 8.6" 10 BOLT 30 SPLINE P/N 19559-1 Posi) from the following people:

I think you would be better off get a shop to do it or a friend that has all of the tools and know how.

I set many of them up in tech school but honestly could't have done it in my garage. Luckly I had a friend that does rock crawling and he had all of the tools need such as hyd press, pinion bearing remover, impacts etc.

I took my whole rearend out and took it over to his shop.

I put an Auburn in mine this weekend, and the races and bearings included were not correct for my application. I'll post the correct part numbers tomorrow afternoon.
