looking at cams for the 5.7 ls1 im hopefully getting. im really leaning towards a comp 224/224 .581/.581 112. its basically the same as the tr224 but with higher lift and more agressive lobes(xer lobes). i need it to idle pretty close to stock without any surging etc. this sound clip of a tr224 scared me away from the cam. i dont want it to have to search for an idle on startup or when coming to a stop. is it possible to tune it to my needs? i know people are running the tr224 on 5.3's and they lope pretty damn hard, i figured the 5.7 would eat up the cam more and make it sound more tame. this car dosent sound tame at all

Yeah itll sound nice on the ls1! Keep in mind that is probably an untuned 224 cam, sounded like they had a hard time getting it goin.

I'm running a 220/220 581/581 @ 115. It sounds stock but pulls like an SOB. You can purchase this cam at MTI in Houston with hardened pushrods, Manley springs and titanium reatiners for a little over $700.00

With a tune, it will start and idle fine. I had the TR224 112 cam, but traded it for a 228/232 .588 .595 110+1. I bet I have a little lope.
I'm thinking that cam, a little head work, 4:10s, I have a 3600 Vig, and a 150 shot. That should make my rc step side scoot!!

vv8 has a pretty stout cam in his 5.3L, his idles just fine last time he was down here.
for the ls1, i'd do a 232 cam, with a decent stall. it'll idle around 800 and drive just fine, we tune them all the time here.
the ls1 can take a bit more cam the truck engine and responds very well!
good luck,
allen

doh....your putting evil thoughts in my head! the LS1 is still guna have the truck intake on it so i think ill stick with the 224/224 .581 .581 on a 112lsa. then i wont have to be in a hurry to swap out my 2600 torque converter for something bigger. kevins truck seems extreemly tame for the size cam he has in that 5.3. if you can make my motor sound atleast as tame as his i would be happy. you think you could tune my idle down like his with this cam in the 5.7? all of the sound clips in camaros make the tr224 sound crazy

oh, and i still plan on going for a 13.5 1/4 mile in the stock cammed 5.3 before i start this project
