Hey every one. I'm ready to work on my 1995 GMC Yukon 4WD which is almost identical to the Tahoe that is mentioned here but it has around 218k miles and is very tired. I am wanting to wake her back up and my dilema is do I go with a 383 stroker or an LS1? What are the pros and cons of choosing the LS1 over the 383? Which will give me better performance and reliability? I need ya'lls opnions and comments on this. I have the non-vortec 350 tbi and has anyone done this swap? My username is 95TahoeSS and thats what I want her to be when I'm done. I don't need something that I constantly have to have tuned or 'fix' as I am not very 'mechanically inclined' but I do want her to run like a true SS though. Budget has not been set yet but I don't think I can go over $5k for everything.

    Thanks

Either one would be badass, you can get a pretty damn strong 383 from the dealer, GM perf parts. Something like over 400tq.
The ls1 6.0L engine will be a nicer daily driver, that's debatable, it will however give you more mpg.
My ls1 lasted a hard 100K+ miles of abuse, and no smoking or knocking, you gotta love the ls1.
    I haven't seen anyone do a tahoe swap. However, i did a pcm for a guy that put a 5.3L in a 4x4 truck, 95 model i believe.
You should be able to stay under 5K if you buy used parts.

what else you got on your mind,

So would you say that one is better than the other (383 vs LS1) or are they about the same in your opnion? Where would I find a 6.0L LS1 or what would be the ideal donor vehicle and what should I expect to pay?

    Neither...
Do this, 4 bolt short block, modified vortec heads from www.sdpc2000.com, LT4 hot cam, 1.6 roller rockers, and a 4 barrel TBI unit. You should be able to do this under 5k and it will produce over 400 hp.
