Does anyone else find it mildly frustrating that newer and newer vehicles are coming stock with more HP? I mean it's great and all but I guess what's annoying is this: Take my '03 for example. Stock HP is what - 295? OK, not bad. But I want more, so I add an intake...another 10hp or so taking me to 305. Not good enough, so here come the electric fans taking me to say, 315hp. Factor in the dual exhaust, maybe that frees up another 10 - taking it to 325. Throw in a Nelson Tune for 89 octane and that adds about 25hp I think Allen said? So here I am sitting at about 350hp at the cost of - ughh, nevermind - with all of these other stock trucks with that much or more. When I bought the truck, it was because I need a truck for work - mods weren't something I was thinking about. I guess if I had it to do over again, I would hold out for something with more stock HP and build from there. Am I the only one that has just a tinge of buyers remorse...?

Put a supercharger or turbo on that truck. Let Allen put one on for you if you have a chance. You will be amazed at the results. PUNCH the PEDAL at 35mph and watch the tires spin and the best thing is it's still drivable and gets better gas milage when the lead foot is ot on it.

I have to wonder about the accuracy of the stock HP ratings from the factory. I think it's just a competition between the manufacturers to have the most hp. For example I was watching a program on Speed the other day that they were testing Chrysler's entire SRT line. They had a Chrysler spokesman on and he announced that they had an update on the Viper HP rating. He said "it actually has 510 hp instead of 500hp, giving Dodge fans back their bragging rights, we know how important that is to them". I have to question how you change the HP rating of a vehicle mid-year like that with no changes being made to the vehicle. My assumption is that the new Vettes are coming out with more HP so they just pencil whipped their numbers to keep the Viper at the top. I guess my point is don't worry about factory HP numbers too much cuz they can be manipulated too easily.

I agree with that. I guess I was thinking more of these trucks/SUV's with around 400hp (new Tahoe/Escalade, etc).

I'm also wondering how horsepower translates to speed (ie: 1/4 mile). Surely it's not always a direct relation. I mean you have to factor in the weight of a vehicle, and a hundred other factors...
