I didn't use mine either, I used the 2 plastic covers that came on the 5.3 from the factory. They are held on with a 10 mm bolt on each side of the oil pan. One of them the starter goes through before you bolt it to the block. Hope this helps.
what covers the torque converter and flex plate on yours or do you have it open
Ill be trimming mine in the center just haven't yet. Seems like it will bolt right back up.

yeah mine didnt fit either and the new motor didnt come with one so on to the tin snips it was!! bolts up perfect. but IIRC on mine, either the starter needed to come off or it was a pain in the ass to put the cover on with the starter in place so i removed the starter. might want to leave your starter off if you havnt put it on yet.

i just trimmed mine the other day. You basically cut almost all the front of right where it starts to get to that edge. i guess a jigsaw with a metal blade would work but i was lucky enough to use a plasma cutter for mine. Then it just takes a little fitting and it slips right in
yeah, its already on the truck and i wont be able to get under it for a while. like the post above, you just about cut all the front off. i cut it all the flat part down to where it starts to curve. hard to explain without pics i know but it works. it will still be tight, but it will go on.
