    5.3ls trans options?

I have an 88 Chevy 1500 2wd short wide. It originally came with a 305 5 speeds manual combo. I put a 94tbi and still use the stock 5 speed. Which trans is this...Nv3500? I'm wanting to put a 5.3 ls, I'd love to put a t56 behind it and keep the truck manual but they are so high dollar. Can I mate my stock 5 speed w it?

I'm going to school in September to Wyotech and just want to get out as cheap and fast as possible. I've had this 94tbi in for a year now which they guy rebuilt himself, said it had less than 50,000 on the rebuild. My old 305 had 300,000 miles on it and had less headaches, actually no issues until it spun a bearing, bent a rod or valve...still had 50lbs oil pressure, just squealed and knocked. This 350, burns water (no leak and none on the oil) runs like shat sometimes, chokes and spits and the rest of the time runs great! I've fixed more on it than I ever did while owning it w the 305. Ready to get this ls swap headed in the right direction. I will upgrade to 6.0 & t56 after school.

    Welcome to the site.

I really can't help you with your trans questions but there are lots of guys here familiar with them. I'm sure someone will chime in soon to answer your question.

We all like pics around here so when you're ready for the swap, don't be shy with your camera. If you have any other questions about your swap don't be afraid to ask.

No problem your NV3500 will work, but you can't abuse it any(ie slicks, drag race dump launches). It may be tough to find a flywheel' you need one from a 4.8 or 6.0,
or the Sachs NFW 1050 when they are in stock.

Ive heard the nv3500 can take alot of abuse but that's gonna be tough cause I am known to give it hell time to time lol. I haven't ever taken the truck to the track and only run street tires. No plans for anything radical till its ready. For now I just want to get by while I save for a T56.

    Thanks for the info.

You can use the your 5 speed with the 5.3. That is exactly what i am using. read through this thread. http://www.ls1truck.com/forums/lsx-t...peed-swap.html

I had my nv3500 behind a 430 hp 383 before the 5.3 and it worked fine. The only thing bad about that tranny you can't powershift.

I've read that thread but just read it again. I think mine is going to be pretty simple, being an 88 no abs, no extra stuff.
