One of the items in my tranny work is replacing the 1-2, 3-4 plastic accum pistons with aluminum ones.

My ATSG update handbook states that if using an aluminum 1-2 accum piston, then a round wire outer spring should also be used. The plastic accum type uses an ovate wire outer spring. There's a possibility of coil bind or breakage if using the ovate wire spring w/ the alum accum.

If using alum accum, will the 1-2 accum replacement springs in the Transgo kit be OK? They look kind of ovate to me. Am I just worrying for no reason?

The only ones I recall like that are for the Fwd accumulator in the VB itself. That specifiy to use a spring for plastic of aluminum.

I use the TG setup with my GM accumulators (metal) and they're fine.

    Hope that helps...

Yeah Hit Man, that helps. I wanted to confirm that an aluminum 1-2 accumulator piston is okay with the Transgo springs. Just trying to cover my bases.

The deal with the ovate wire springs vs. the round wire ones in the 1-2 accumulator is discussed in the ATSG Update Handbook page 60. It covers the changeover from aluminum to plastic accumulator pistons. Since the TG kit completely changes the setup in the 1-2 accumulator anyhow, no big deal.

    Just making idle tech talk
