Thread: Head gasket questions.

  1. #1

    Head gasket questions.

I have the 6.0 motor, im putting 243's on it and was curious if ls1 head gaskets are the same as 6.0 or if they would work.
Also i was looking at getting the thinner head gaskets, would that bump up my compression any more?

I use gm part# 12610046. It's like .055 I think. Never had an issue with it myself

The LS1 gaskets wont work for a 6.0. They will work for the 5.3/4.8's though. And yes a thinner gasket will net more compression, VERY little, but still some bump in compression.

Look up the part number. They are the exact same. I have LS1 head gaskets on my truck. Not sure why its that way, but it is.

The 6.0 has a 4.0 bore right? so is that why the ls1 gaskets wont work because of the bore size? It it worth the extra money for the bump in compression?

Also will ls1 head bolts work for the 6.0?

Depends on how much extra money. Were talking a miniscule amount of increase in compression.

Also depends on what year the LS1 bolts are from and what year the 6.0 is. Pre 04 there is different length bolts, and 04+ has all one length bolts. Also if they have been used thats a big no go to use them again. May as well save the money on thinner head gaskets and put it to a set of ARP head bolts. That way you have stronger bolts and can use them again.

Head bolts are new, part number es72173 felpro. Lower profile gaskets are around 90ea.
