    Is a manual swap possible in 2005 1500 4 door z-71 ???

I did some research a few years ago and go sidetracked on another car project.

I was never able to confirm if a manual swap is possible in a 1500 4x4 without doing a body lift. I don't know if the t-56 will work with a 4x4. I really know very little, just that some have done a conversion in 2wd 1500s and I remember reading about a guy who put a HD manual in his avalanche but had to lift it so it would fit.

I am just looking for some definitive information on whether it is possible to have a manual transmission while retaining my push-button 4x4, and not lifting anything. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Anything is possible. There are a select few 4.8 with 5 speed that would bolt right up. Finding that manual trans with the t case will not be easy.

I remember reading that a few 4.8s came with that transmission but I also think I read that it was too weak for any engine larger than the 4.8. Do you know if that transmission could be strengthened? I'm sure once I had a manual I would swap out the cam and get it tuned to remove all torque limiting. It would have to be a fairly robust transmission I guess.

You can use an nv4500 for the swap. It's the 5 speed they put in the 2500's. I believe the only difference in 2 or 4wd is a longer output shaft and housing on the 2wd. It's a solid tranny that will take anything you can throw at it. Shouldn't have to lift it either. Only prob is the gearing is SUPER low for 1 and 2

I will see if I can find a write-up on a conversion. It might be that the NV3500 is okay since it was offered with the 4.8. I know it will fit on a 1500 so I just need to find somebody that has done it.
