4.8 is giving up the ghost.....

Well the last 2 oil changes in a row the truck has taken down a quart at around 2k miles. I figure it must be burning oil at 127k miles I am a little disappointed but not overly so. It also has a leaking water pump slow leak but leaking none the less. I figure its not related, but of course it could be. I figure this gives me the opportunity to say hey lets get something better/more fun while we are at it haha These are my current thoughts.
1. max 1.5k budget.
2. This is my GF's DD so no big cams or anything along those lines.
3. I want something bigger at least 5.3 maybe 5.7 or 6.0 if I can find a wicked deal.
4. I would like to make this a straight across swap simple as possible most likely stock heads, OEM Intake, etc.
5. I would like to put down 300ish rwhp (bolt-ons, baby cam, what else).
6. The trans will get a basic rebuild with its own budget.
7. No more 1 tire fire, and moving to 3.73's or 3.90's bye bye 3.43's.

Thoughts anyone?

Normal. Think GM says 1 qt every 3k is standard. I lose 1.5 every 3k.

What year? 99-03 (maybe 04) are the years that burn more due to the PCV.

Okay well thats a relief just never had it happen before.... Lets just tell my girlfriend it will need to be replaced some day soon lol

mine was burning a quart every 1.5 k miles. I started adding lucas at every oil change and it hasnt burnt a qrt since. IDK what it did but it helped.
