Thumbs up ANOTHER 5.3 to 6.0 thread ..

Ok guys dont kill me, im new to the gm engine.i have only delt with mopar up until now.

Here is my situation, I have a 2007 Silverado Classic Z71 and it just took a on me. I want to swap it out to a 6.0 for more power and torque. from what i understand it is a direct bolt up, plus a nice tune. my question is ..Cant i just buy a short block and throw my heads and intake manifold on it to save money on this. I was told that dang near all gm engine parts are interchangeable except for the obvious like pistons and crank?? Any helpful input will be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!!

You could do that, and it would get your compression way up there. The 317 heads on the 6.0's have a much larger combustion chamber than the 706/862 heads on a 5.3. It wouldn't get so high you couldn't use pump gas though. If you search you can find out exactly, lots of guys have done it.

Ok, I want this to be a reliable truck and i don't want to race it or get 1000 horsepower out of it, it will be an everyday driver. I am basically looking at putting stock engine with stock specs back under the hood + a mild cam while keeping my compression pretty much stock.. sorry if there was any misunderstanding on that.

It'd be a great reliable runner.

And use the 5.3 flywheel. Unless the 6.0 is an LQ9 from a Escalade or Silverado SS.
