i was browsing around on Tbyrne's sight the other day and checking out the 8.1 engine upgrades and was just wondering how many people out there are actually putting them to the test?

A friend of mine owns a 8.1 2wd 4dr p/u and we are curious what kind of dyno proven results have been derived from these massive engines?

Has the factory underrated these engines? 345hp seems kinda low when you consider that a 6.0 is rated about the same. But the tq. is considerably higher.

I would assume that a motor of this size could possibly see even bigger gains than we are used to seeing with the ol'5.7 LS1, when comparing bolton's to bolton's?

    496 BIG BLOCK

FYI, he gets 9-12MPG depending on situation
    99 C5 cam/boltons 400rwhp
    10 Sierra CC 6.2
    03 Suburban 5.3

I think most ppl are going to the bored/stroked 6L or LS1 for the big cubes. There are performance parts for it, but i don't see too many ppl going for it. i think most would rather buy a duramax if they are gonig big.

    don't know other than that.

    i don't think i've seen a 8.1 turn 6500rpms either.

Well I'd stuff a big cam in there to start with. Old BBC's in muscle cars came with a 214/218 so I'd at least start with something that size. Do better valve springs and hardened rods so it can rev up to 5800rpms or so.

    Maybe some roller rockers too.

Some big headers like The Other Guys would really uncork it. Large cased Magnaflow muffler to let it flow a bit better.

High flow intake, GMS MAF meter, ported TB, electric fans, etc.

Ask Allen about a custom tune, I'd bet that will REALLY wake up that sleeping beast.
