    fuel pump problems

I did an LS swap in a 82 c10 and i put a walbro255 intank fuel pump, and since i have a returnless fuel rail i put a vette reg/filter. well after a week the pump is bad. i put the key foward and i can here it prime but it only has 20psi than drops to 0. i dropped the tank to check if the fuel line on the sending unit to pump was loose or cracked but it all fine. the pump is bad i spent $125for it to last a week. well i ordered another pump and i should be recieving pretty soon. my question is what could have caused the pump to give out? do yall think the vette reg damaged it? could i have gotten a defective pump? i just want to fix any problems berfore i put the new pump in.

did you try hooking up pump outside truck? I'd say make sure you have solid power/ground. Long as nothing is clogged, and raising backpressure, and pump isn't running dry, I can't think of anything. Pretty sure few guys are running those pumps on returnless style no problem. What's your bucket look like? How bad is inside of tank? Possibly sucked up rust?

no i didnt try the pump outside the truck, what i did was disconnect the pressure hose running to the reg and put the key foward and it had very little pressure. i put a test light on the power wire and it had power. im not sure if thats the way to check for good power. the ground wire on the sending unit is bolted to the frame i scraped the paint to get a clean ground.the tank is pretty clean no signs of rust inside.

You need to put a voltmeter to it to see what the voltage is at the pump.

I've run quite a few of the vette/s10 regulators without a issue. Could be just a bad pump...

idealy it will be what your alternator is putting out, but around 13v is good. any less than 10 or 11 and there is an issue somewhere and upgrading the wiring to 10ga or 8ga would be a good idea.

well with my bad luck i got the new fuel pump and put it on and its still the same crap, wont build pressure. i ran a new 10g wire to to the pump. i checked the voltage at the battery and it has 12.6 volts, i also checked the voltage at the pump and it has 12.6 volts also. so now i know its not the fuel pump or the voltage at the pump, it has good a good connection. the fuel lines are new with the rest of the fuel system. now what should i check? i dont know what to do anymore.

you have 12.6v AT the pump, but won't build pressure? Check filter if you have one. Make sure the pump has a really good ground. i would say it's an electrical thing, but if the wire has 12.6 at the pump, the fuses/relays have to be ok.
