    4l60e differences?

Hey i have a 99 silverado 2wd with the 4.3 and 4l60e transmission. The cooler line had a leak in it and my uncle kept driving it and now it has no 3rd and 4th gears. My question is, is that my buddy has a trans out of a 01 silverado 2wd with the 5.3. Both transmission look identical side by side. Only difference i can see is that mine has a 46 on the side and his has a 50 on the side. I was wondering if his transmission would work in my truck.
    thanks

Thanks. I got the trans in and it wont shift on its own. Drive and over drive act like neutral, 2nd gear and 1st will work when siting still. When i get it in 1st i have to manual shift up through the gears when i get going, and when i stop i have to pull it back to 1st to make the truck move. It shifted fine with the old trans, i dont know whats going on.

Any Codes? Are you sure everything is hooked up right?

Yeah i double checked everything. The weird thing is when i drove it around it didnt throw and code. But when i let it idle for awhile it threw the SES light. It had 3 codes p0785, p0740 p1860. I deleted the codes and pulled out of my street and the truck shifted like it was suppose to. When i came to a stop it went back to not working. I had to pull it into first for the trans to ingage in gear and then had to manually shift it. The SES light hasnt came back on yet.
