As you can probably tell with my handle name, I have an L33 engine. If I'm correct, this engine has 799 casting heads which are the same as 243 casting heads. Does this also mean that I have springs that can support a .600" lift cam? Also, I'm pretty sure that an L33 came with flat top pistons. If this is true, is it possible for me to run a 220ish duration cam with a .550" lift without piston to valve contact? I'm very new to ls engines as you can probably tell.
You can check your head casting number to see what heads are on your L33. Should be able to clearly see it on your passenger side head above the #2 cylinder exhaust port....

Also, from what I've heard the L33 is an aluminum block 5.3 with flat top pistons, hopefully someone will chime in to help in that area....

It is a 799 casting, and if it is indeed a flat top piston, which I'm 90% sure it is, can a cam of that size work without hitting stuff? lol. I guess that's just a general ls engine question.
you dont ahve to worry about hitting pistons till you run into cams with large duration splits, high duration at .050 and cams with alot of lift
baby cams in the 220s have plenty of clearance

So lets say 220/224 @.050 and .550" lift will fly with a flat top? Would you also happen to know if the heads I have (799) have the same springs as 243 vette heads?
no they arent hte same springs nore the same valves
your still talking baby cams. i have a 230/236 with 595/601 lift on a flat top motor currently
Ive ran 242/248 608/612 in stock motors with flat tops with no PTV issues
