    Nelson Tune for Stock 5.3

I'm looking at getting a tune for my 5.3L and it seems Nelson is the major choice around here. Right now the truck is completely stock with the exhaust hacked off from the muffler back. With the Custom Tune form on their site, do I leave everything blank that isn't stock? Also, the SEL just turned on for the catalytic converters. Would they be able to tune them out so it doesn't throw a code anymore and kill my mileage? What does the dual octane performance tune do?

They can fix the SEL, a dual octane let you run both 87 and 93 it will reference different spark table base on knock depending on octane. I have never really looked at the form(I do my own tuning) your best bet is to call the shop and they will ask you everything they need to know. I would recommend just getting a tune for the highest octane available in your area.
    Step 1. crus at it.
    Step 2. get a hammer.
    Step 3. torch it.

On the form the dual octane is for 87-89 and 91-93, not 87-93. 87-93 would make sense, but 87-89 and 91-93 seems kind of pointless.

On the contrary the real world only allows for a certain amount of fudge room for learning and there is no way you could have a standard static tune that could get the best performance over the 87-93 range or everyone would get it and there would be nothing else.

Yes, but doesn't the computer already have tables ranging from 87-93 octane? I would think an aftermarket tune would be able to replicate this also.

The factory tune does not optimize for 87-93, it's made for what the minimum is in the owner's manual, etc....usually 87 unless it's an LQ9, a blown 3.8, older 9 code Northstars, etc.

From what I've read it does actually optimize for 93, even if the minimum is 87. I'll have to see if I can bring up the thread that discusses it on FullSizeChevy.com.

Yeah just fill out the form and leave blank what you dont know. Mel will call you if she has any questions...at least she called me. You wont regret it. He can turn the CEL for the cats as well as tuning for things that you want to do in the near future but havent yet..like EGR delete, cat delete, rear O2 delete...things like that.
