    turbo 5.3L or 402

i want an honest opinion. should i build a 402 and drop it into my 2wd silverado or should i turbo the 5.3L i have now? i have a few bolt ons and a tune but i want power. i changed the rear to a detroit tru trac with 4.10 yukon gears. just asking an opinion and seeing which way to dump 4500 bucks.

front mount turbo imo bc you can always upgrade motors later vs spending 5k on a motor then another 5k on a turbo..id rather the front mount turbo now then build a motor later

    2002 Silverado - 427Lsx w/ Twin gt4202s
    2010 Silverado crewcab Z71 - 5.3litre w/ procharger
    2000 Wrangler - 5.3litre with some stance

it ain't that I'm too big to listen to the rumors, It's just that I'm too damn big to pay attention to 'em..That's the difference

motor swap. when you get tired or need more power from the 402 then put some spray on it. Thing will be fast with the right suspension setup

For me personally I'd stick with the 5.3. With a 402 your gas mileage will go to crap, and I see so many people part their trucks out after doing a large displacement motor swap.

gas mileage isnt an issue. i would drop an 8.1L in if there wasnt so much extra crap i would have to swap. i have a motorcycle and a new excalade i can drive instead of this thing if gas prices go up again.

who else besides sts makes a turbo kit. i found one other but they dont have the carb oe numbers. so every time i have to smog the truck i would have to take it off.

motor swap. that way if you decide spray or boost later the engine can handle it safely.

I do, Nelson does, and Trick, but none of them have CARB approval. Only one is STS and its only on 01-05 I believe. AS far as what's better, depends on what you want to do with the truck. A 5.3 with about 7 psi of boost will make about the same power as a 408, but then you can turbo up the boost and make more power then a NA 408 if you want!

i like my turbo 5.3l it makes my pig move pretty good. then again i do care somewhat what my mileage is. but down time on the install was way less than a motor build also.
