    4.8 cold starting

I have a 2004 Silverado with the 4.8 And was wondering if a slight engine tick is normal when starting the truck in colder weather. It only lasts a few seconds and then goes away. I have 83K on the truck.

Is there anyway to easily fix that or is it something that I don't need to worry about it? If it's not going to cause any problems then I can deal with the ticking for a few seconds.

Don't worry about it. It's normal and as long as it goes away after a little bit, you'll be fine.

my 4.8 is an '07 with 20k miles and the valvetrain is also a bit 'ticky', but these are LS motors, so get used to it. Never had a problem with any of these engines (as long as still stock), and Ive had a few of em. Synthetic oil will help with the sticky lifter issue if that's what the problem is (it helped for me at least)

Put a can of Alemite CD-2 into your crankcase.

I'm not a big fan of additives. The only thing I've put into the truck is Lucas fuel treatment, and I've always used Mobil1 5w-30.

Synthetic is thinner oil so in the summer up here in DC I use 10w30. In cold weather I switch back to the recommended 5w30
