    new pistons

a buddy of mine is putting in a new 5.3 after his other one leaned out too much and torched the pistons.

(dealer ship is putting a new motor in, not used)

his question is should he keep the stock pistons in it or get different ones? Who sells the pistons for the 5.3?

He is worried that if he has some custom made they will be better paper weights than anything.

Some of his mods are, magnacharger, larger J tube, 90mm throtle body, 8lbs of boost, full tigged exsaust, and he is putting in a mild cam. That is all i remember ...

    thanks

There aren't any forged pistons made for the stock bore of the 5.3 yet. Wiseco is going to make them but they won't be out for another 2 months. You could have some custom made but by the time you get them, the ones from Wiseco will be available. I'm going through the same thing right now. It sucks.

He can bore it to the same specs as the 5.7 and get forged internals for that or swap to a 6.0 and get forged. Basically, the 4.8/5.3 is the red headed step child!

Say a prayer for the poor soul forced to get screwed into putting an engine in for warranty time in a non-warranty situation. Everyone wins except for the guy that does the work.
