    Dexcool Anti freeze

I just finished installing my 34" core radiator so I can run the 05 Tahoe fans. I have heard mixed opinions about using the red anti freeae. Should I keep it red or switch to the green stuff???? Thanks in advance.

First off never mix colors. The only real difference that I know of is that dexcool will last longer before it is need to be changed. I have dexcool in my truck and thats what i will keep running in it.

The only problems I've ever seen with Dex-Cool were vehicle owner induced.

If a Dex system has been ran low on fluid, (not repairing a leak, etc), they build up a dark brown sludge in the cooling system that is very hard to get rid of. Mixing of ethylene glycol based coolant, or other stop-leak products also creates problems.

I have several Dex systems thru my shop daily with high mileage, and they function well and are clean. Proper maintenance is the key.

BTW, how many of you guys running "green" coolant are flushing it every 2 years/24,000 miles?

i have been told never mix red and green because it would gel together. but if you have a completely new cooling system meaning all new hoses, motor, heater core and raiadtor use whatever you want. at least that is what i have been told

Green gets crappier by the day a little at a time until it needs flushed....usually every other year. Red stays the same until it craps out at about 6-7 years. The only thing that kills Dexcool is poor maintenance habits...usually allowing it to be exposed to air. People get leaks and don't fix them. After a while the system sucks in enough air that it converts the Dexcool to a gritty slop that is tough to flush and clogs heater cores and such. Stop leak pellets (like the ones used in a certain GM recall) make it waaay worse. Ask anyone with an S-10 or Blazer. They're the biggest heater core eaters. Go with what it was built with and keep up with normal maintenance and you won't be one of those that hates the orange/red/pink homo coolant.

BTW, Dexcool evaporates a little easier too.

Do a google search on Dex cool. You'll see a lot more people that have had problems with it. Some including lawsuits. Everyone says use traditional.
