I was wondering if anyone from california knows if vortec heads on a pre 1995 1500 w/350 TBI will pass as O.E for the visual inspection. my dad and I were talking about using those DART iron eagle heads. He SAYS as long as they're not aluminum the guy wont even notice that the heads arrent O.E. What do you guys think? Is it worth it to keep the origional heads and have them machined or just get some aftermarket (edelbrock or IRON EAGLE)/machined newer vortec heads. The set-up I want on top is that edelbrock MPFI kit, and thier 50 state legal heads/cam package. The only problem is that looking at the numbers the vortecs have a bigger combustion chamber than the edelbrock heads. I guess they just keep it smog legal and make more power by raising the compression by making the combustion chamber smaller. Does that make sense? HA HA.....I hope I said that right....ANYWAYS the only problem with this is the MPFI manifold kit comes with a chip that on their web site says its SPECIFIC for the ENTIRE set-up from them......whats weird is that on thier MPFI kit for TBI trucks 1993 and older dont HAVE a chip....I'M LOST....whats the dif...wont the motor run like crap if there is no new fuel map for the new top end? this doesnt make any sense to me. Maybe one of you guys know why the pre 1993 trucks wont need their chip upgrade......THANKS........
