    trans question

does any one know if a 4spd trans out of an '86 4x4 will bolt up to the 5.3? if not, what will be needed to make it work. i'm putting the 5.3 in the '86 and would like to keep the original trans.

you will haft to ask mean 05. He is the only person I know for sure that is going will a turbo400 trans. I THINK that there is a adapter plate that must be bought to put the older trans to the gen 3 motors

this is a 4spd manual with the granny gear, not an automatic. if that makes any difference.

Basically the turbo 4 and the Old Manual Should bolt up the same since they were made to fit the same 350s,305 etc. So the adapter and whatever else is needed to run the turbo 4 behind a 6.0 is what you will need to run the 4speed behind a 5.3 I would think.

There is hardly anything similar between a 4-speed in an 87 and a THM400.

They only used that 4-speed until around '92 or so. They were all NVG4500's after that. The bell housing should match enough bolts to work. Not sure about clutch and flywheel interchange though.

you think i would have to change out the input shaft on the trans? i planned on opening it up anyway to check things out, so swaping the shaft would be no big deal for me.
