Random Information - Weight of Driveshaft

I have the 5" aluminum driveshaft out of Virgil's SS...total weight is 17 pounds.

I'm not sure what the stock ones weigh but it's considerably more than the aluminum one even though the diameter is a lot less.

I'll have my stock one when I get my truck back in a few days and will post up the weight.

Not sure how much of a difference it will actually make, but obviously lighter rotational mass is going to give a little bit better performance than heavier rotational mass.

    Every little bit helps...

in high HP your better off with a steel DS. the stock aluminum ones are thin and hollow filled with foam

I disagree - I think the aluminum would be stronger.

I wouldnt trust no stock GM alum DS to any power my truck makes.

ive seen what Fbodys do to the stock alum DS and those are thickerwall

Awd right? the transfer case takes the hit more.

a soft launching vehicle wont stress the DS as much as a hard aggressive launching one.

i think fbody is 3.5" or 3" im not sure. a good friend with cam only SS on his launch he twisted his Alum like a pretzel. 456+LS7 clutch+ hoosier QTP + suspension+6k launch

Sorry but I've cut a bunch of them up and I don't trust a stock 4" truck shaft in Moze's truck either. It's thin wall, hollow, and yes.....filled with foam rubber. I've seen wheelers twist them off and bash them in two. Not sure Virgil how yours lasted other than the AWD (even though the front doesn't do much on the 03+ AWD systems).

which one of you are right? yall both go against each here Quik says the t-case takes all the hit and Nathan says the t-case doesnt do a whole lot for the AWD....i sure did grenade that G80 though and was cutting 1.60-1.66 60's consitantly...Moze makes less power and less torque then my truck made...at least 150rwtq less...so Moze i think you will be fine
