    NV4500 Swap?

Ive been really considering going to a standard transmission and was wondering if an NV4500 could bolt onto my 4.8 with none to little modification? Im going to do a 6.0 obviously later. Also I do have a body lift so I dont know if that would make it an easier swap? Can I convert to a short shifter with this setup?( I.E. I would use a console from an ext. NBS with a leather boot where the cupholers are.) Also I do have 4x4 and the floor shifter which I will have to modify a tad bit to get the console to fit. I was gonna research the T-56 but it would not be beneficial with all my weight and lift.

There's no way I'd ever consider either an auto to manual swap or an NVG4500. They work good for towing but are not performance transmissions by any means. Not to mention the earlier models' 5th gear speed nut problems that makes a $0.15 part kill an entire trans.

It's much easier to swap an auto for a manual IHO.

I agree, if you want all around performance the NV4500 is probably not the best option. They pull good, but just aren't really a performance tranny.
A T56 however is an absolute blast.
Mine is in a 2wd old style.

It's just an opinion, but much more fun to drive than an auto.

I thought you could build the NV4500s up?

Also how would I get the t-56 to bolt to my 4wd? I thought you couldnt put those together, and I dont want to lose my 4x4...

The NVG4500 is strong (except the older 5th gear speed nut) but has long throws and big gates not suited for performance usage.

Transfer case mouted behind the trans (not bolted to it like normal). I think 4X4 guys do it when they add a second transfer case for double low ratios.

So I could do that with the T-56? Im just afraid its not beefy enough to support the lift and power. I bet if I built it a bit it could withstand all the stress...
