    engine decisions

I have a 2001 sierra c3 6.0, LQ-9(i think) it has 77k and runs great but of course needs more power!I dont know where to start i dont want to go to wild but i have come up with three possible options 1;L-92 heads and manifold package from slp, 2;408 stroker 3;complete L-92 engine swap if it would be worth it! Guys this is my first ls engine and its a different ballgame than the original small blocks so i need as much help and advice as i can get!

What all do you have done so far? I would start with the basics and go from there if you aren't looking to go crazy. Intake, exhaust, headers, cam, pushrods, springs, shift kit and of course a good tune! Depending on what you want your long term goals to be, then you could go FI, spray or heads. You already have a great building block to start with that can make some big numbers. Just depends on how big you want to get.

2004 Silverado Crew Cab, forged iron 5.7, STS w/MP turbo, 10+ psi, FMIC, Tial 50mm BOV, Vic Jr, Snow performance meth, MTI Stealth cam .220/.220 .581/.581 115lsa, Comp chromoly pushrods, Yank TT3000 stall, LS1 Efans, 160 tstat, Trucool 40k trans cooler, 60# injectors, Walbro fuel pump, Patriot springs, Built 4l65E w/billet input & output shafts, Eaton posi, SD tuned...all installed by Klein North Automotive

First question is: What's your budget on this build? The 408 option would nice... but check this out: http://www.ls1truck.com/forums/dynod...5-numbers.html

dont know the few people i asked and car and driver said LQ-9?it is bone stocknow, I want this set up to be very streetable and able to tow a car trailer w/ car the 408 is alittle out of my budget at the moment, just got married and bought a house ,and bought this truck.this truck is supposed to have 325hp,im sure thats at the crank i wouldn't want to get over 500 but what else would it take if i got the L-92 head and manifold pkg. from SLP or is that even a good purchase

I would not consider option 1 unless you go with a big cam, headers, etc. But that wouldn't be a streetable, towing combo. The LQ4 engine in your truck already has LS6 heads (317 version), which flow enough stock to make over 500 HP.

Options 2 & 3 would certainly deliver the goods, but would cost you your first-born male child.

Option 4: cam & headers. For about a grand, you could pick up an easy 50-60 HP. For towing and good street manners I would suggest a cam in the 210/218 range, like the Vinci Ultra Torque at this link:

    LS TRUCK CAMSHAFT

Option 5: supercharger. This would provide the most power in a streetable package, but won't be cheap. Kits like the Magnacharger or Kenne Bell go for $5K - $6K.

so is there a shorty header that will bolt in or one that i dont have to make changes to the rest of my exhaust or will that be a compromise of power?

Poop on STS ....... Get Trick Performance turbo kit.

For all the money you'd spend on heads and cam and springs and headers and totally tearing your engine apart
you could just slap turbo kit on bone stock motor, never touch a bolt on the engine and more than
make your wanted power while keeping stock cam idle and hwy mpg.
