    96 Vortec swap with 95 Caddy LT1

Hello out there. I'm considering swapping out a vortec 350 in my 96 1500 Suburban with an LT1 out of a 95 Caddy I own. Does anyone have any info/advice on this swap? I have both complete cars..the suburban has a broken crank..the LT1 in the Cad runs perfect. any help/guidance for info etc. is appreciated. tks. Bill

    How did the crank break?

hmm, internally they are VERY VERY similar. The cylinder head ports are also VERY similar. I would suggest pulling the vortec block and checking for any damage. The intake, blocks, and heads are NOT interchangeable. Almost everything else is. If the block isn't damaged, then consider simply swapping the crank, rods, pistons, from the LT1 to the vortec.

The iron head LT1 was rated at 260hp and 330tq. The vortec 350 was rated at 255hp and 335tq. The differences were in the cam and intake manifold.

Not sure how the crank broke..just started rattling...we shut it off, couldn't see any damage after I pulled the pan..checked real close..found a hairline crack in the crank back about cylinder 7..when I took the bearing caps off the back half of the crank dropped down..I don't see any other damage...maybe a factory crack that finally gave it up..? I thought about just putting a new crank in..actually have it..just not sure if I can trust it..?
