Saying Hello And Asking A Question.

I Figured I Kill 2 With One Stone. I Am New To The Lsx World. Came Over From The Ford Crowd. Easy......i Still Like Fords. I Own A '67 Chevy C10 Prostreet(502 And Pg) And My 2004 Rc 5.3. I Figured I Would BUy This Truck For The Fuel Mileage That They Get And I Realized How Well It Responds To Performance Mods.

My Question Is What Motor Do I Have For New Head Bolts? Truck Was Built 10/03 And Casting Numbers On The Heads Are 862. Anybody Know For Sure How To Tell? I Know, Simple Question. Oh Yeah, Are These Heads Worth Keeping And Porting?

Thanks In Advance For Any Info.......

Welcome to the forum!! I would say that you have a Gen 3 5.3 with Vortec heads. It all depends on how much Performance you want to get out of it as to you question on are they worth keeping and porting. What mods have you done so far? Do you have any pics of your ride?

Well, she's not real pretty to look at.....Looks like grandpa's truck. I am keeping with the sleeper theme. Toolbox, bed rails, stock wheels with good tires.

I have installed 1 3/4 LT's, offroad pipes with 4 inch cat back. CIA, MSD, pulley, BBK TB, coolant delete, 05 rad and fans, Nelson harness, owner built 4l60e with TCI billet parts, 3.42 gears and 23mpg's.

Would love to put a cam in it, but don't want to lose my fuel economy. Have a buddy with a 04 ZO6. He has offered to sell me the heads and cam that came off his car. Just don't know if that would kill the trucks towing ability. I have the prostreet truck for the dragstrip. I see all these guys making good numbers with just a cam install. These heads must be worth something.

grab those heads, lol and ship them to me hahahaha. if you dont wanna get plain outragous with the set up keep the heads you have, maybe port them alittle.. you can still save in gas mileage with the right cam (z06 cam) and still have a little more pep same with the heads ..

So the ZO6 heads aren't too big for the 5.3? I heard somewhere the ZO6 cam is a small base circle so longer pushrods are needed.? Like I said, I love this little truck and the 5.3 is a runner, but there is a point in every engine where you go overboard for the daily driver. Don't want to reach that point. 350rwhp and mid 20mpg's sounds so nice right now.
