whats the diference between the 700R/4L60 and the 4L60E? are the shifts computer controled like on the 4L60....so you can plug and play....or is it all mechanical and the only part thats computer controled is when it goes into O/D?

the 4l60E is all electronically controlled. they make a plug in adapter that raises the line pressure for firmer shifts. plus with handheld tuners and ls1edit you can raise the line pressure and speed up the shifts.

This unit is basically a THM 700-R4 with electronic controls added to the valve body. The shift pattern is controlled electronically with 2 shift selenoids that recieve a ground signal from the PCM. The PCM will vary shift points blah blha blha

THat was straight from my repair manual for the 4L60e.

So .. in short ... the only difference is the valve body and some added electronics to it. Almost all the parts are interchangable between the 2.
