Has anyone bypassed the tb heater and gained anything. I see these kits on e-bay and they claim 8 hp.

You won't see or feel any gains, but it doesn't hurt anything, so it's just a matter of whether or not it's worth your time to do it.
like the green 6.0 said even if it adds 1 hp eventually these little helpers will add up, its designed to heat the throttle body during cold temperatures ? but wouldnt the coolant in the lines be cold until the truck warms up anyways, which by that time the heat from the motor would keep the TB from freezing anyways right. We should be GM consultants hahahha

The difference between winning and losing, is having a 2nd stage.
It doesn't have to get very cold for carburetored engines to ice up. Up here in ND all the cars sold here had cold weather stuff like hot air intakes that took heat off the exhaust manifolds untill the air cleaner temp was at operating temp. Even with that-- cars [ OK they were Toyotas, I worked at a toyota dealership] would freeze up when it was snowing wet stuff right around the 32o point. The amount of moisture in the air and of the temp of the air [ I think it is called dew point] , the venturi effect of the throttle and the temp of the carb will determine the ice up point.
In our truck engines.
With the throttle body being metal between two pieces of plastic I wouldn't try it [ a by-pass ]up here in the winter.
In ten minutes I will think of what I should of said.
I have a good memory -----it is just short.
In fact I have such a good memory---
I can't remember anything I have ever forgotten.

me and my friend that can customize just about anything did it, but we moded my intake, put a K&N highflow filter and a JET performance throttle body spacer on at the same time. Obviously i noticed better throttle responce but i dont know if the tb by pass had any effect. But i would say to try every thing I did its a guaranteed performance boost.
