Well I got the 05 5.3/4L60E Combo this weekend with all accessories, harness, and exhaust cut off after the o2s and I'm only short a few parts.

Mean05 is hooking me up with o2 sensors, MAF, and Electric Fans from his 05. I should get them Saturday.
Then I got the tuned PCM coming from Nelson's and they said it should be here Friday.
The Engine/Tranny is in the truck with the TransDapt motor mount adapters which I need to get rid of.
I didn't realize the clam shells didn't work right with them. They fit, but super tight.
I got the fuel pump in the other day.
I guess I need the Corvette Fuel Filter.

Maybe if all goes well I can hear this thing roar! That's if we can figure out how to wire it...LOL...I hear its just a matter of 5 wires. We are going test it first before my 30 day warranty is up then take it back apart to clean things up and finish the rest of the truck.

Anyone have any tips for the first start up?
I'm guessing I should change the oil/filter and transmission fluid/filter.
I should be able to get the driveshaft cut/balanced soon afterwards.

Here's the progress so far.

Thanks
Well sometimes I feel that way, but we still have all the body work and new floor to make, plus the all out custom dash. I'm hoping we can get it all done in 2 months...thats probably a little ambitious, but we are gonna start putting in some major time.

You got that one right about do it right the first time...I think I've already been through that quite a few times...hehe. The quickest way isn't always the best way. I've read quite a few of your posts looking for information. I know you have learned that same thing quite a few times. It's definitely true for your transmission. I spent probably half an hour reading about your transmission problems so if I run into anything similar and especially relating to the converter lockup issues.

So how are things going now with your truck?

Transmission rebuild that I did recently went superb... up until a high-rev'd 2-1shift slipped, caught, and MURDERED first gear this past Saturday. Don't know what happened there. I took it apart on Sunday, and found a little piece of metal in the pan (along with metallic shavings). The one thing I didn't disassemble was the input drum. Gotta order some new clutches yet again. Not to mention whatever component that chunk of metal broke off of.

This is why shops dyno (or should dyno) performance transmissions on a test bench before shipping to the customer. If they're good, they'll know what's weak & faulty BEFORE assembly. I'm living & learning... just not too happy to do so.

Jeez, that makes the 3rd or 4th one you've been through. I bet you know the bottom of your truck pretty well by now. Well hopefully my stock stuff will hold together, I made sure it was 04 up so it wouldn't have too many of the inherit 4L60E problems, but who knows for sure. I know I have read a lot about not manually shifting a 4L60E unless you have changed out the valve body to be a manual. I think that sounds right...I'm not much of a transmission guy. Used to I could slam through every gear manually on my TH350 and never tore it up, but then again it wasn't electronic.

Isn't the transmission you just broke the one from NY or something? I'm shocked you broke this one.

I hate to the bearer of bad news to my brother which is DarkKnightOTC. If you honestly expect us to finish this truck in that time frame we would both have to be sleeping with the damn thing 5 nights a week. My significant other may have a slight problem with that as would yours I bet.

Honestly though we have alot of stuff to do and I mean alot. To get it to the level that we've talked about going with it and all that we find in the future to do to it. Man I dread looking at it somedays when I go out there. I know how much is left mechanically...not counting all the bodywork and prep work. The painting to me is a snap. It's everything before that that will drive you
Final assembly which can be nerve racking too. Sometimes sh*t doesn't line up the same as you had before teardown. Also you don't want to screw up fresh paint either.

Oh well...get your ass back to dreaming up new ideas for me to have to figure out.

Actually, I only had two transmissions. The first one was never rebuilt. It was replaced with a second transmission as a "temporary fix" until I got the money for an FLT-L4. That trans never worked from the get-go b/c I bought it with the wrong input shaft/pump/bell-housing on it. DOH! Got that one rebuilt by a local guy that hooked me up with no parts fees. (yippee, right? wrong&#33 Got the trans in, and that sucker wouldn't shift into 3rd or 4th automatically. Bought Transgo's SK-series kits (yet another mistake), and had the guy rebuild it again. Put that puppy back in, and it slipped, but finally went in through all gears. Pulled it out so the guy could check it out ONE MORE TIME. Got it BACK in, and everything seemed fine for my test drive. Went to the store to get my wife a Subway sandwich, and BAM! It broke yet again. Turns out the valve body was not modified correctly.

Now... fed up with all the crap I've gone through so far, I decided that there's nothing I have to lose. Bought Transgo's HD2 kit & Sonnax 2nd & 4th servos (made the right decision for a change). I decided to rebuild my first transmission, and it worked (for a while). This time, based on symptoms and visual fluid inspection, FLT suggests looking at the input sprag & converter as culprits. I found a piece of metal in the pan, and shavings floating in the fluid. Am I having fun yet? No... just disappointed at all the crap I have to go through just to enjoy a hybrid truck that's been in the family for 21 years. It'll get done one day. Now, it's back on jackstands until I can afford time & money to tear at it again.

BTW... I never bought an FLT trans. I just painted my first transmission to look like one. Also... FYI... FLT's not painting their transmissions anymore. Vince says they're going with the "virgin" look, and just blasting them clean. Mentioned that it was too much trouble in the shop with paint over-spray.
