Just confused/wondering how you other guys with 4WD operate at the strip...

Do you use the Auto 4WD or the 4WD?

If you use the 4WD, do you leave it engaged the entire run? Or do you switch it off part way down the track?

Also, if you use the 4WD, is that damaging to anything?

I use 4wd to get out of the hole, then go back to 2wd before the shift to 2nd. You won't hurt anything using it.

Thanks Foggy. I didn't try that when I was at Ennis. I'll give it a shot next time - I would think that would totally eliminate any traction issues.

From what i hear, the transfer case and the other 4x4 components are supposed to be more bomb-proof than the rest of the drivetrain. I would say use it for sure, I do everytime now and i have had no problems. Could be the difference between a 2.0 and a 2.5 60' launch.

Thanks man - and do you leave yours in 4WD the entire time or do you change it back to 2WD?

I use 4 HIGH all the way down the track, you can hit 2 wheel after launch but its all still spinning anyway, youll be fine and youll love a 4x4 launch!!

hitting 2wd during the run does kick it out of 4wd. while I'm in 4wd it pulls me to the left pretty hard until I go back 2wd, then it is straight down the track for me. 4wd launches are a lot of fun.

They must have changed the shift mechanism on the 03+ trucks or something. Mines an 01 and with bolt ons and a 100 shot I could hit the 2hi button after launching but it just blinks till I let out of it. Many others have had the same xperience, but I dont recall any of the newer trucks having this issue or atleast posting anything about it.

BTW alot of people say it makes a difference not shifting out of 4hi, I tested it back when I just had bolt ons a 3K stall and there wasnt any difference between my times besides my 60fts.

Wouldnt the first thing that would mess up running 4hi down the track is your transfer case?
