They are both posi units. The lsd = limited slip diff. Truetrac has gear type lsd and the other Eaton posi has clutch packs. does that help at all

I run the eaton posi w/3.73

I run the eaton and I have absolutely beaten the shit out of it, on road, offroad, towing you name it. It is capability is seamless, you dont even know its there till you punch it and you go sideways. Alot of people will say go with the trutrac because the eaton has clutches to wear out, but ask yourself this, when was the last time you heard of someone burning up the clutches in an eaton?

True, I've never heard of someone burning up an Auburn until I bought a used one and burned it out in less than a month. My previous luck with the Auburn units was perfection at it's best until that used unit. My 92 had over 160K on the Auburn and it lit both tires up at will even with all those miles.

so the cheaper unit is actually more what i should be looking for? i want something that isnt gonna make driving my truck a bitch around corners and such. also traction is the main culprit right now and i have heard nothing but the best about the truetrac units, so i guess thatll be my next buy in a few weeks. thanks for ur help guys!

I have the cheaper unit and it works great. You don't know it is there until you power brake it or get sideways. Like 1slow01Z71 said "seamless".

I think either one you will be fine with, I have driven trucks with both and they felt the exact same, and I have heard of niether failing. I like the eaton because it kind of has a relief valve built in with its clutch design, if you put it through too much crap the clutches will slip, the detroit is going to munch gears and total the unti and possibly the R&P, but again I havent read where either have failed so...
