Hey Greg, what would u suggest as far as GPS tracking devices go. I found THIS GPS tracker and it seems pretty nice. I've been pouring a ton of work into my truck and id hate for it to end up being stolen and then I'd be screwed. any feedback is appreciated.

lojack would work, but i do like the idea of all the extra things the device i linked to above offers. also i was under the impression that only select Police Departments had lojack capabilities. Living in Waco I doubt our PD has that technology.

Here is what lojacks website says:
Law enforcement authorities who are equipped with LoJack vehicle tracking units - in their police cruisers and aviation units - are always listening for a LoJack signal. Police use the LoJack vehicle tracking units to track and recover your LoJack equipped vehicle.

http://www.q-gps.com/HW_Tracking_7100.htm The cheapest price I have found is here.

This unit is the best and it is cheap to use. You can tie it into your alarm and it can alert you when the alarm goes off "i think" It can shut your vehicle down from the internet if you choose to do so. I have one and love it easy install too. Easily hiddin also.
Someone else on the board has one and per his recommendation this is what I bought. His rec comes high on the list. Even you know it.

Track the instant location of your vehicle, anywhere in the U.S.

The 7100 is a web-based real time tracking system that uses GPS technology to accurately determine the exact location of your vehicle.
The 7100 monthly service fee is very low (for detail please see Service Fee). You can set the unit to update its location while the vehicle is moving and can be set to update in the following increments : 5, 15, 30, 60 minutes, 4 hours, daily or weekly. If you are only going to use your tracking device to occasionally track its location, these are called pings. Pings are billed at 25 cents each.

List: $595 Sale:$398.00

The 7100 is very easy to install on your vehicle. It comes with a single antenna and a power cable that connects directly to your battery or fuse box.

Features:

You can set the unit to update its location every 5, 15, 30, 60 minutes, 4 hours, daily or weekly. These are called Automatic Location Updates. You control the update frequency, and you can change it at any time.
You are only charged for location updates when the vehicle is moving, but you have the option to set the unit to also update when the unit is stationary.
To locate the vehicle, you simply log into a website.
You can access this website 24 hours a day from any location where you have internet access.
You can view the vehicles current location or travel history from the website at any time.
The 7100 does not require the use of any software.

Find out if the "Tracking" company will track across the border. Some will some won't. If you want a device that has a 100% perfect track record there is a company that makes a "Plug-In" key. Never had a vehicle stolen yet. Planted a vehicle in Mexico city and after 2 hours the professional theifs gave up. I can't remember the name but 01slowz71 (Cody) posted the company name in a previous thread.....

I like the looks of the newest unit made by landairsea.com. I can't be partial, though. Anything that works is better than nothing. You also can buy a new GPS tracking cellular phone and bury it in the truck somewhere. There are a lot of cellular providers that provide a tracking service for their customers. At $100 per year for the phone service and a nominal fee for each search, i think I'd check into one of them. The cool thing is that the coverage goes anywhere that cellular service is available, including Mexico City.

As a law enforcement professional I can say that LowJack is crap...most of our patrol units no longer carry the unit's to recieve the signal...the best I have seen is OnStar will give you block to block information...i.e. if the truck turns at an intersection or stops at a stop light it gives real time data and tells wut direction the vehicle is facing...very helpful when police are looking for the vehicle...Todays GPS units have far surpassed the lowjack where you follow the beeps, similar to playing Hot Cold as a kid. Technology has basically killed LowJack.

The cool thing about the hidden phone trick is that you will find the shell of the truck. most phones will hold a charge for about 5 days and when they go to dispose of the part that the phone is hidden within, it will be able to be located. At least you can get your door back.
