Iron ls1 into C5?

Well bought a 1999 C5 with around 160 thousand miles. The Engine does not have the power of an even stock vette anymore. Raced my brothers stock 2002 Z28 and lost really really bad. Vette has ram air only mode. Will my iron 5.7 work on the vette by that i mean oil pan will it fit on the 5.3 block? Also any thing anyone might know please help. Rear end on the vette spent most my extra money on it so trying to use the engine from the truck. Ls1 will be going in the truck. Truck rarely gets used just trying to make this vette my dd and want it fast.

Why would you swap over an iron LS1 when it already has a real alum LS1 in it?

Just do some mods to the vette and leave the motor in the truck.

not 100% true, the vette motors have a specific bolt boss in the block for the vettes. Iron motors dont have these and may lead to issues on installment

what are you calling a bolt boss? I'm not arguing, just trying to figure out what your talking about.

its where the vettes motor mount bolts to. most Gen III motors have 4 bosses on each side the vettes have 6

The iron motor will bolt right up in a C5. The LS1/6 blocks have 6 mount holes on the driverside and 5 mount holes on the passenger side. It still just uses the front 4 holes like a iron block. The other holes are used for grounds. I've done a couple of these swaps. I have a C5Z in the shop now that just got a 408.

Just the ls1 in the vette no power runs fine no smoke or anything just not enough like an ls1 should be. Also got the engine in the truck brealy finished and never really use it. Use my F-250 more for pulling and stuff. Just want the vette to be my dd with good amount of power. Thanks so by the sounds of it it should fit then.

Guess I just dont understand why anyone would want the extra weight of the iron block when you have an alum LS1 already in place. Its just as easy to mod as the 5.3 was. Do some of the same mods and you will get much better gains IMO.

By the time you pull both motors and swap everything over and install them back into the vehicles you will have spent a month of Sundays with time gone by with neither vehicle running, and not to mention the small fortune in fluids and gaskets that will need to be re-placed, don't forget to factor in the cost of re-tuning both vehicles for proper drive ability. Just mod the motor you have till it blows it up or breaks lol.... or you can install cheap HP on it. Serious doses of N2o till it croaks, then swap motors JMO

You would only pack on another 30 lbs overall I think as well from swapping an aluminum block to iron block...either way it's really no big deal...Just saying

Why don't you find out why the vette is lacking power?If it doesn't smoke maybe it just has a spark or fuel problem.Possible clogged injectors or bad coils.

Exactly...something is causing the vette to lose power and it could be a problem even when you swap motors. Why not get to the bottom of your problem first that way you don't spend all that time and effort swapping engines only to still have a problem. Also an iron block is 100lbs heavier and that's a big difference in a vette. My neighbor has a procharged LQ9 in his vette and it's heavy in the nose...

IMO I would only swap from an alum block to an iron block if I were going larger cubes, even to a 6.0 would be pushing it for me...maybe a 370 or 402/408.

I guess its just me that thinks that way but thats probably why my truck is still slow. :)

Attachment 7891well the vette has 100 n2o shot already and the stock camaro loses by like only 1 car length when spraying. Just no codes or anything to really trouble shoot on the vette. Well going to problaby keep them as they are yea sounds like too much work and trouble. Going to put a 200 shot see how long the ls1 last. Maybe that will make it a little faster. Just the vette forums are ... well rather be here.

Just because there are no codes doesnt mean that you dont need new plugs and or wires. There are a lot of maintenance things like that, that get overlooked because the car still runs without problems.

What plugs are you running with the 100 shot. Who tuned it for the nitrous? What kind of nitrous kit is it?
