wanna go boosted

i want to turbo my truck but i dont know the best way to go it. i want to run 10-12 with a stock bottem end. right now i have a 5.3 with p&p heads and cam to match 219-227 .607-.613, tbss intake, heads have 30 thousands shaved off. or should i get rid of the 5.3 and go with a 6.0 with a boost cam. i kinda want to keep the 5.3 but i dont know how much boost it can handle being higher compression. also i would like to know if a stall is nessary with boost, right now i have a 3200 but its in a 60 and im going 80

Go turbo now and upgrade engine later. :).
Stall is matched to cam more then turbo or boost.

A boosted,cammed 5.3L will handle a n/a cammed 6,0L ;).

We can build you a nice turbo kit with intercooler, let me know if I can help your build out.

boosted and cammed 5.3 sounds pretty goOD to me.... i think a 3200 stall should be fine.....unless u go BIG turbo....

Depends how big it is. I wouldn't shy away from a stall. They're going to give you a huge SOTP gain.

Boost is where its at.. But can destroy a stock motor quick if your not careful! But man its sooooo funn!! LMAO

how much boost can i safely shove to a stock lower end 5.3

safely... 12-15. but i had my motor well over 30psi before and it just blew the head gasket... but the internals are still perfectly fine.

but even at 10psi a healthy 5.3 can put down 500 all day long

well im shooting for at least 500 and was thinking 10-12 pounds. whats the life spand on a 12-15 pound motor and no its not a dd

dont get to caught up in a PSI number as that means nothing. my old 4.8 on 9 psi did over 500 rwhp without breaking a sweat.

if you have a power goal in mind then just do what it takes to get that number, it may be 6 psi or 15 depending on the tuneup and parts chosen

very true!!! a well setup combo will make alot more power at 5psi than a junky setup will at 15... boost doesnt make power, air flow makes power

It's obviously not the perfect combination for boost, but it'll work. Your compression ratio is probably around 10:1(assuming you're running an LM7) and that is about the same as the L33 HO 5.3's that many people have had great success boosting.

Pick up the new Hot Rod magazine for a read, they had a junkyard stock bottom end 4.8L with heads, cam, intake, and twin turbo's lay down 1200hp at 26 psi and held it fine

That's probably my favorite article I've read. That made my mind up on doing a turbo on my truck. Now just to save up and piece it together. To the OP, you can always get a set of 317's off someone for pretty cheap and sell your heads. That would drop your cr a good bit. And really if you want you can get a ls6 cam for cheap too.

ive been reading alot about 5.3's w/317's- will net you a 8.5-1/8.6-1 cr, and these guys are turning out easy 600 to 700hp. look up 5.3 turbo van, its a awd chevy express- now one of my favs! and another one was synergy motorsports also in a truck, granted it was a twin setup.
