My motor is finally in my zr2 im trying to get it popped off this week but im struggling on the steam vent stuff. Im running my stock 02 blazer radiator and resevoir so i would like to verify if teeing into the heater return hose is the correct place to run the steam vent that comes off of the throttle body.
I read this somewhere but it seems like there would still be pressure in the system...
correct me if im completely wrong, thanks in advance.
I would bypass the tb and run it to the port just under the radiator cap, basically to the radiator tank.
so basically tee into the radiator overflow tube? that would make things really simple
overflow is on top of the cap right? it's there to catch excess fluid when pressure is build up, not sure about routing it that way.

hmmm so do you not advise that? there isnt a constant flow of coolant through that tube is there? i dont see why it wouldnt work that way unless it drains my coolant system to my coolant res. that wouldnt be good.
If you look at the radiator on the pass. side, right in the middle should be like a half inch diameter small fitting that is already attatched to the radiator. That is where the coolant tubes from the bottom of the throttle body go to. If you dont have that small fitting, then dont worry about it, just put small end caps on the throttle body. If you dont have small end caps, then dont worry about it. You really dont have to have radiator fluid passing through the TB at all. I think its only for extreme cold conditions?
i dont really get what your point is here i already know i can bypass the TB i just would like to know where i should be dumping the steam pipe hose, because im running the stock blazer radiator and coolant bottleQuote:

On my 5.3 swap I drilled and tapped the thermostat housing for a fitting and hooked it up there. You could also drill and tap the top of the water pump and plumb it there. That's one way a lot of people do it. Makes for a real short hose.
huh? but i thought the idea of the steam vent was to relieve the coolant system air pressure? what i cant figure out is if there is a constant flow of coolant through the steam pipe or not?
I'm not sure about constant flow, but if you pull it off and rev the engine water comes rushing out pretty good.
now were gettin somewhere. i have a feeling if i tee'd into my coolant bottle i would just be dumping water out the over flow tube. or do you think the radiator would suck it in fast enough.
Tee'ing into the coolant bottle would most likely be a bad idea.
The pressure in the system is not an issue. What you need is to get the fluid to flow through the system. The upper steam port hose is to get air out of the heads. This issue is really common in the old style system that does not have a reservoir supplying the coolant rather than just a radiator. On OBS conversions I return the steam port line to a hole I tap in the water pump by the heater hose fittings.
so my best option would be to tee into the heater core return line? or does it matter which one i tee into? i dont really want to tap into the water pump mainly because its already mounted.Quote:
