Wheel question with 4/6 drop

Here is my delima. I currently have on all 4's, MB Precise 20X10 wheels with -25 offset, wraped in 295/40-20's. I have a 4/6 drop on my 2wd 04 silverado. The front tires rub pretty easy on bumps and it sucks. I'm trying to figure out if I order the same wheel but 20X8.5 with +18 offset (5.5 back spacing)and run 275/45-20's, will I have rubbing issues? I'm thinking it should work. What are all of your thoughts on this? This is the only option I have on ordering the same style wheel (just the 2 fronts, the rears are fine). I have a post on here related to this, but with a differnt option that I have since nixed. Thanks in advance :)

If you do the positive 18, won't you be able to keep tue 295's? Or is it running the back side of the fender when you turn?

Another thing, did you wanna keep your tires that tall?

Not keeping the 295's up front, not if I get the 20X8.5 rims. I think the 295/40's might be a bit wide for a 8.5" wide wheel, so I figured I would buy 275/45 for the front. No rubbing on the inside of wheel well with current set up. So going from 295/40's to 275/45's.

There is a how to thread on GMfullsize on Mini tubbing the front. I did it on my and i am running about 5" drop in the front with a 265 50 20.

If you can use a grinder and a hammer. You are good to go. It's just your inner finder. Nothing that you see or could see if you are tucking tire any way.

Well after looking at it, I don't think I want to do that. I don't trust myself in cutting metal off my truck in that way. I have a grinder, and use it, but not on body panels. Thanks for the info though :)

Those are +25 offset correct? If I ran a 20X8.5 with a 275/45-20 it would be 1.2" taller then your setup. Think it would work?

If you do the 275-45 your front tires will be a little bit taller then your rears. I would do a 275-40, it would fit better. I have a 2.5"/4" drop on my truck

yeah a 275/40 would put me .6" shorter then the 295/40's. Might be the way to go. Thanks for the input

I rubbed slightly with a 275/45/20 up front on my truck. 4/6 djm drop, 20x8.5 wheel +28 offset. I lacked about 1/4" from clearing the factory fenders. Original owner cut the rear quarters to clear the 275/45. I still run the 275 out back but a 245/45 up front. I probably could have been okay with a 255/45 or so tire up front.

did it rub only when turning and/or going straight and over bigger bumps?

im running 274/40/20 all around on my truck with 4/6 my tires clear perfect up front were rubbing in the rear on dips in the road. i had to roll the rear fender lip some.

what offset are your wheels?

OK after researching a ton and gathering all of yours advice, I'm thinking 275/40's is the way to go. Ordering today, wish me luck and many thanks to you all :)

it only rubbed when going over bumps at high speed (ie Oklahoma's and Wichita Falls' crappy roads)

think my offset is only like a +15 or something.. But it wasnt bad it was just a touch every now and then, if i was lower than 6 it would eat the tire up lol

I went with Hankook Ventus ST RH06's 275/40's. Everything should arrive tomorrow so I guess we will see :)

Discount tire direct. Cheapest I found them. Free shipping, and that's where I ordered my rims from. They mounted them before shipping for free also. I had simular Hankook's on the lightning I used to have and really liked them.

I ran 275/45/20 onmy truck with the centerline stingray 2's and I didn't have any issues on my old truck... It was dropped and the only time I ever had an issue would be when I hit a large bump or dip in the road and the suspension would compress and the tires would rub the top of the fender.. But that was because of my driving style mainly

ok i am about to install my 4/6 drop next week. and i am running 285/50/20 on 20x9 rims with a +18 offset. i will most likely need to change tires wont i?

Yessir, the wheels on my truck. They used to rub slightly with the 275/45 up front but with a 245/45 they don't even come close, I probably could have even gotten away with a 255 or 265 tire. I have them in the classifieds right meow. Let me know and we can make some kinda deal. They won't work on I when I bag it so they gotsta go. I used to work at chuck's car stereo; I installed a bunch of stuff in your truck and a remote start in his. I'm buds with David Lile and Marvin Cogdell too, thats how I know Jeremy.

well what kind of price range are we talking about? because i wasn't really wanting to buy new wheels unless they were 24"s but for the right price might as well. and i see, marvin and david are pretty cool guys. but didn't you move to audio source after chucks?

I did because I was promised the world and never delivered, I should have never made the move. I spent more time fixing warranties than actual installs it seemed like. Chad is a good dude but I still wasn't happy. I've got a much better gig now, build oil field analyzing equipment during the week and occasionally install on the weekends so I can stay fresh for when I move out west.

did you get new wheels or just put the new tires on the wheels you had?

I got 2 new wheels and tires

that's pretty bad of them but im not really surprised. i dont know how many people i know that something like that has happened to them. but it sounds like its a much better job now and much more money to be made.

It wasn't really anyone's fault, he just can't keep a good installer because of the politics. Take home money is around the same, but my flexibility and benefits outweigh anything. If I want to leave at 2 I can, if I want to come in on Saturday I can. I can take vacation whenever I want without much notice. It's a bad ass job for sure.
