Sept 11, 2010.. head cam swap party at my house.. PM me for address....
who's in?
I have a wedding my entire family is forcing me to go to. Day after or day before and I'm in.
You have everything already? Thought you were on the fence about growing a pair and actually doing it?
hahahahahahahhaahha jerk!
now im lookin for injectors bah!!!
whats the new setup going to be? cam specs? head casting#? take pics.
cam is a patrick g 226/230 .598/.600 112
243 stock heads w\manley springs
tsp pushrods
42 lb marine injectors
LS2 timing chain set
and if i can swing it updated tune from nelson WITH HPT.
heads are not ported and polished.. out of my budget for now
whats the difference between the ls2 and truck timing chains?
sounds like it should be good setup! im builing and 04 SS lq9 motor at the moment for the RST, definietly going with a set of 243's, 23x duration cam, NNBS intake manifold with 90mm tb and dr.x harness. & full boltons, should be fun, make sure you grab some pics and vids when you get it buttoned up.
are you doing this to a 5.3, if so you should at least mill them to keep your compression ratio up
no a 6.0L in an SS
Cool guess I should have seen that in your sig.
if im not mistaken some year models came with the ls2 chain? i just did my cam swap and left the chain and oil pump alone. the chain was still tight and looked exactly like the ls2 chain we had on hand.
i got 136,000 miles on the truck. .time to change the oil pump
keeping my stall
the swap is still on going actually
nightmare after nightmare..
we finally made progress.. cam is in.. heads are on..
unknown fact.. 2007 or newer TRUCK 243 heads are NOT LS6 heads.. not really but kinda
everything is the same, except the coolant crossover tube.
on these heads the front passages were plugged off.. we had to knock it out to get the tube in the proper place.. thought we had done some really really wrong things.
the intake is goin on next.. after a small break
Seriously? Have some pics of what is different? I have the 799 heads on my 2007 and they are exactly the same style as my Patriot Performance heads. I put the coolant crossover hose from my 2007 heads on my PP heads when I installed the 408.
on the 243s i got.. the crossover was blocked off in front, but open in the back.
ill get pics up as soon as i can.. im still in the middle of reinstalling everything.
ok
major major thanks to oleshifty and shadow sniper..
got the truck done.. up and running.
she runs rich.. she idles very rough when cold.. and misfires like a banshee when u hit 4000 RPM.. dunno whats up with that..sound like its hitting a rev limiter
photos of the scanned data is here..

That sounds great! Can't wait till you get the updated tune in!
that IS the updated tune for the upgrades we put in!
(yes that video was taken at like 3am..sure his neighbors love him)
It REALLY feels like it hits a rev limiter at 3800-4000. Pulls pretty strong until that mark then just misses like crazy and rpms stall. We tried in D, tried holding it in first....can cruise at 3500 smooth as can be, press pedal tad bit more and rpms just 'bounce'.
Anyone have anything to check other then 'tune'. Which is what I'm leaning towards.
My 'scanner' can be touchy, but we were seeing like 31 degrees of knock retard at one point. This was on premium fuel, and those 'rich' codes coming up.
42lb injectors without a tune = most of your problem
We installed a nelson tune, that was supposed to cover cam/heads/injectors/his previous mods (which he already had tuned and dialed in)
Truck runs too good at idle-3500 for it to be something mechanical. It would be a more gradual, you can hold it in first gear at 3600 or so rpm and it feels stock, go up 100 rpm and it bounces like crazy, give it more gas and it just stays at same spot. My truck did same thing stock at 92mph or whatever.
not only that, but in park, i bought it to 4k and held it for about 3 seconds.. no misses
put it in drive.. get it up to 3800.. misses all over..
could it be they didnt account for my stall?
does this make sense?

Sounds like cracked spark plugs. My brothers truck did the same thing, at idle and very light load it would run fine, under load(50%-WOT) It would miss and pop. Might double check them, cheap insurance.
The LEDs looked like lasers on video, nice light show.
Truck sounded good, if it aint the plugs then maybe the tune just needs a once over. :)
Thanks Maui.. i just HAD to put the lights on ! i couldnt help myself..
im wondering.. if the tune does have anything in it for the 2800 stall. would that feed into this issue?
ive called nelson 4 times and cant get anyone on the phone.
tuning for the stall shoulndt have any affect on it, give nelson time, he will get it figured out
I know a tuner that you can get a hold of every time if you're interested :)
duct thanks but the pcm is locked
But you have HPT and can change things, correct?
nope
That sucks, guess you're stuck then.
have you checked the plugs yet??? im really hoping thats it, im worried about if the cam is timed right or not...
I mentioned to him that it may have been the plugs. I was really hoping for them too. You wouldn't think the cam being degreed/timed right would cause it to miss in upper RPMs only, but then again I've never seen one done wrong in an LS. I did see it done wrong in a CobraJet and it would barely run at idle.... so that was my thinking on that.
i had a 6bt that the cam got timed wrong it would start but wouldent rev up much at all, if he is off one tooth i could see it being possible but lets hope its something simple
