nice!
i plan on doing that when i do the LED swap... some time
what'd you use? nail polish remover?
What does it look like lit up?
NEXT ON MY LIST!
did you pull them off to do it? i was thinking about leaving them on..wasn't sure if orange is on top or bottom
need to pull them off and the orange is on the bottom
I guess the needles on the 03-up are different. The base looks a little different. I have some on my desk here and the plastic is tinted orange on the pointers on them.
Can you see the needles at all at night when lite up?
the rougher surface resulting from sanding diffuses the light more, so it'll be a little dimmer
I like the look. How many light bulbs are in the cluster? I am about to get the LEDs now so when I get home from Iraq I will have everything waiting. Any suggestions for LEDs besides superbrightleds.com?
i believe that there are 6 bulbs for the gauges and like 4 for the indicator lights. If you can solder good you can buy the bare LEDs and the proper resistors and do it yourself. I'm really impressed with Oznium.com, they have really good quality LEDs.[/QUOT]
Which bulbs are needed to do this change over from that site?
i used 6 194 6 bulb leds with 6 adaptors, i've had problems with the metal peice falling out of the plastic adaptor and the bulb fell into the cluster. idk how finger nail polish worked for yall, i tried it and it didn't do anything but make them brittle (i did infact use acetone free) i used my knife and scraped the back side clean then frosted them. needles are easy to remove just becareful you get them on back right.
that site doesn't have the exact bulbs, the only sell bare LEDs. you would have to solder them up yourself.
i used a stripping gel and i didnt have to put any effort into it, it pulled the orange right off.
When You take the gauge cluster out is it difficult to get the clear plastic part off or is it just put on with clips?
And when are you gonna post the night pics? I'm waiting!
the clear cover has clips and the black back plate does too. its really simple to take apart.
okay thanks. Ive Been wanting to do white face gauge covers just didnt know how the cover was attached, and didnt have the desire to remove the dash to investigate even though its so simple
do you think this could work on an NNBS truck i really dislike the way the needles look right now.
There is a good How-To thread on FSC.com but its only for the 99-02 trucks.
03+ you have to de-solder and re-solder the LED's in and idk if you have to resistor them too but they are a pain if ya dont know what your doing...
I dont think the method that the OP used will work for the NNBS either
If anyone is a noob at soldering, it's Danger...just ask C.
Always wear safety glasses when soldering!
