whats it cost to swap from a 65e to an 80e? after the trans has been purchased?
Wow thats such a smokin deal!
Didnt realize this was posted a little birdie told me about this, sent pm btw and i do NEED one let me know
Would this work with the 1500 transfer case? I thought I remembered reading about the 2500 and 1500 being different.
You could put this one in for that price. I think. Remember it is a 4wd trans and you will need to change the input gear in your transfer case to match the trans. Time2kill on silveradoss.com sells the necessary gear. You would also need the front driveshaft out of a 2500 he might have that as well.
Yes you will need a custom front driveshaft. I am not sure of the rear driveshaft and the input gear can still be obtained from time2kill. I have not done this swap yet but it is in my near future or I would tell you what exactly to do about the shafts front and rear. Kbracing will cut and weld your crossmember for 40 bucks or so plus shipping if memory serves. Thats about all the info I have.
Oh wait, Front shaft needs to be smaller diamator and is a different length. An SS is if I remember right a shorter shaft. Don't know if a regular front shaft would work. I doubt it but I plan to try it and see once I get the cheese for a built 4l80.
A 4x4 60 to 80 swap is more involved as the tranny/transercase is moved back about 1 11/16. A stock front drive shaft from a 2500/3500 truck (you must tell them its for a 5speed trans to get the right one from a junk yard) will fit and you have to shorten the rear shaft 1 11/16, as well as cutting the cross-member and moving it back. Also, as stated the input gear on the transfer case must be changes out the the 4l80 gear on the autotrack and a special made one for the AWD tranfercases. It also uses a different adapter between the tranny and transercase then the 60 does. It is much more involved then 2wd swaps.
PS, Would be nice to have this tranny for a spare, ;) You should hold it for me until the LS1truck track day in case history repeats its self,
Yep, it should. I just had to get one ($50) from a junkyard (while on a PT.net GTG trip, lol) to replace my expensive one I got when i first did my swap that was custom made with a stupid CV joint that failed, that it didn't NEED!
The first junk yard one I got I told then I needed one for a 3/4 ton 4 speed tranny and it was too short. They said it should fit 1/2, 3/4, 1 ton. Had him look up the shaft for a 5 speed trans and it was for 3/4 and 1 ton only. Got that shaft and it was perfect length, just like the custom made one.
So now I have both the custom front and rear shaft I had made for my truck are sitting in my shop with about $600 into them and they are useless (rear shaft has a vibration that 2 different shops can't get out of it) and my shortened stock rear drive shaft (didn't know he could shorten and balance a 5" aluminum shaft) and a $50 stock front shaft are in the truck, lol.
