NEW Jeep Owner here

Well after months and months of research and reading, I decide to take the plunge and pick up another vehicle. I needed another one to haul both dogs on trips, have AC, do some occassional wheeling, and just another DD.

2003 Jeep Overland (the Denali's of the Jeeps :))
120k
4.7L High Output V8

(Pretty sure the Jeep has only seen about 70k-80k actually started and driving. It had one of those towing bars on the front like it was towed behind a RV.)

All PWR
Leather seats
AWD + 4X4

I picked it up for $7,100 after TTL etc. There are a few things wrong with it though. AC only blows on "Lo" setting, pretty sure it might be the blower motor bc I feel like it just seeps out. Also there is a "rubbing noise" when making a left turn only, might be a CV joint. There are a few things I need to fix, but once I do that it will be pretty sweet ride. Oh and one window regulator isnt working and wont let the window go down.

The plans for it are - 3.5"-4" IRO lift, front end replacement, and most likely some 31s or 32s.

Nice David! You gonna' put booties on the dogs so they don't tear up the leather?

Dang that's a clean looking rig there David!

Make sure you change all the fluids (diff/tranny/transfer) soon if it was towed, just incase anything got heated up from the trans pump not running.

You should clear 33's all day long with that lift. 31's would look goofy.

Try the blower resistor before the motor...most common the problem when only certain speeds work.

lol I was thinking of laying some indoor/outdoor carpet in the back, they wont sit on the leather, but the seats fold down

Yeah I will change all the fluids. That's what someone else said to, was the blower resistor. I still have to do some research on what wheel/tire combo I want to go with.

i was messing around earlier in it, and when I tried to put it in 4LO it popped out of gear like once. It feels like it doesnt want to stay in, unless I slam it in. IDK I just need to do a full tuneup on it.

Sounds like a lot of the same issues mahlady has with hers. Even if the air is working properly it doesn't blow worth a crap. They are nice lookin rigs though.

lol Ill do bolt ons, but nothing too major. Get it to breathe a little bit better

Welcome to the Jeep world. As you know Lindsie and I have two ourselves and would not trade them for the world. They are great daily drivers but are not the greatest on gas...

If you're looking to go with a bigger tire setup as well as a suspension lift, you may want to look into one of these...Took them awhile to come out with them but they are finally here... :burnrub:

the window problem you speak of is probably because the plate that holds the regulator to the door shell is plastic and breaks quite often and sometimes cuts the cable.

they also have problems with the a/c blower motor resistors on them.

GOT ONE JUST LIKE IT! Mine is Black with tan leather interior 4 x 4. The 4.7L HO's are pretty peppy!

LOL I wont, theres a few things I gotta fix. Those things listed above and then when I make left turns I can hear a loud noise like the wheel is rubbing the fender well, but I think it has the proper clearance. So IDK

Yeah, I am with everyone else on the window motor and blower resistor. If it is making the noise while turning left, chances are that the RIGHT front wheel is rubbing. CV joints should be good. Chances are that if the previous owners towed it behind an RV, then they did not have the steering column locked when in tow. Do the front tires have excessive wear on the insides of outsides of the tires?

The driveline should be pretty stout (motor is a gem), but those WJs had some electrical gremlins. I am sure most members of the Jeep forum should have answers for ya. One of the coolest things about the Overland--the built-in GPS. :thumb:

Yep pretty sure its the resistor. You can look at where the plug is plugged into and you can see how the plastic looks wavey ( most likely from getting really hot.) and once I wiggled the hell out of the wires, i turned the truck on, and the AC started working.

Yeah the outsides of the tires looked pretty worn on the front. and yeah I am pretty sure its rubbing

It's realll comfy and does nice at freeway speeds

haha oh it will. Ill take it wheelin one of these days. I really put a nice lift on it maybe even put some cragar wheels on it with some 31-33s ;) haha

the jeep actually has the full 120k miles because even when a jeep is being towed, it will not rack up miles on the odometer.

On most Jeeps you can put the entire vehicle in neutral which will allow you to tow and not have to keep it running for the tranny pump. It will also not rack up any miles while doing this.

well the jeep is in real good shape for 121k. Hardly any wear on the leather. I got a carfax and only some sensors were replaced. Not hardly any leaks or fluid build up anywhere

Ummm yeah.

Anything flat towed like that needs to be 4WD and the T/C in neutral. It won't hurt anything....not even the fluids. BTW, the wheel bearings and axles and all that stuff do have a lot more miles than the rest but that's OK most likely.

Yeah I am going to do a huge tune up on it this weekend. I was pretty busy this weekend so I wasnt able to get around to it
