I have been doin some thinking lately and if im going to put an 80e in my truck I might as well go big or go home. My question is do I stay N/a or go FI? If I go FI I plan on finding a used rear mount from someone. After all I am on a budget...LoL

The only thing I can think of that would warrant an 80E on a 5.3 would be to go FI. I could be wrong...probably
You could always spray.....:naughty:
It's a hard choice, the FI will give more power in the long run, but there's something to be said about a stroker with a big lumpy cam, it just sounds so good.
I am willing to be there will be some used single turbo kits for sale soon.
Turbo FTW
? :dancenana:
I think there's something special about doing it NA but I can't lie if I had a few grand to spend I'd go turbo too lol
just go quad turbos lol now that'd be unique
I would go the route that Garrison went nasty cam, big stall and spray the ever living hell out of it.
4L80E and Turbo go very well together.
i have 3.42s along with a 80E.
I have decided to go with F/I. I would like to just get a charger. But i know ill be happier with a turbo setup. I would like to go with a rear mount because they seem cheaper and easier to install. What all will I need on top of a used StS kit?
Depends on what the kit comes with.. but the very least is a Good Fuel pump and Injectors.
Im using Custom shorty 73#ers and a single Walbro.
Soon to be Dual Walbros.
oh and of course a Tune, but im sure u know that.
Yeah I figured a walbro and 60 lb injectors so id have room to grow. This will be my first turbo setup....so I guess im a newb. The main questions i have is where is everyone running the oil lines and I noticed that with a rear mount you need an oil pump. Also will I be ok with just an intercooler or do I need meth too? And what octane do I have to run?
Also how does everyone feel about longtubes and a rear mount. good or bad?
Im returning it to the oil cap, but when i do the cam swap i want to return it to the rear of the Passenger side valve cover.
Yes you will need a scavenge pump to return the oil to the engine.
Im just running a W/A intercooler, no meth yet. 93 octane.
Ive seen some guys gain by goin back to the factory manifolds from LTs..
Retains the heat and flows plenty for a turbo setup.
Yea some guys only have 91 octane..
Tune has to be adjusted accordingly.
Allen does all my tuning. So shouldnt be a problem then. I just hope I can find a somewhat complete rear mount kit. Im wanting to save some cash and buy used.
There were a few of them for sale on Pt.net.
Thanks Ill have to take a look. Is yours rear mount or front?
STS rear
Returning to the valve cover is the way to go. If you return the way STS shows into the oil filler neck, it can cause issues by pulling down on the neck. Bottom line is it's just not as stable. Meth may or may not be needed. If you are running a lower amount of boost (< 8psi) and you have an FMIC, then you should be fine. Plus, it's something you can always add later. If you find a used STS kit and it doesn't have an oil pump with it, there are ones you can buy that are identical to what STS uses and some others that may be a little better. Here's a link to a thread about them over on PT.
Where to get oil pumps? - PerformanceTrucks.net Forums
+1 on using factory manifolds instead of long tubes. Or if you use LT's, make sure to exhaust wrap everything! You should probably do that anyway since it helps everything spool faster. Keep the questions coming and I'll keep my eye out for you on a STS kit!
Keep your eye open for my kit... :)
You really should consider a twin kit. The rear mount will get old fast. The oil pumps tend to die. ETc etc etc. The twin kit has gotten really economical as of late. Twin or a single at least. The hardest part is drilling and tapping the oil pan. If I can do that you can.
I know youve all probably said this before. But I dont want much. Id be happy with a charger but they are so expensive. I just want more power to get the 80e moving.
I don't think anyone on here has run that brand. Looks like a cheap knock off of the radix
There was one guy running it and he had it up for sale awhile back. I dont remember his name though.
hm I dont know. But your not going to ge tthe power you want with a supercharger. Just save up for the twin kit. It will be jsut as much as a new single kit, but more usable power at a way better price
Just sell me your kit and then you can buy a twin kit.
sounds like a plan to me
Put a 3000 stall in it. That will help you from the rolling start and then later the converter clutches will lock in and you'll be at 1:1 ratio engine to trans speed.
