AC went out at my parents house. I want to buy them a couple small window units for now until they can get the money to fix the AC. Is a 5,000 BTU good enough for like a bedroom? I'm really not looking to spend over 150 for each window unit

Oh ok. I think I may get one 8k BTU, and two 5k BTU
oh ok cool thanks
If you dont know a 12000 btu is 1 ton of cooling and will do about 500 to 600 sq feet. like on a ac unit 12 in the model number is 1 ton 36 two ton and 60 five ton ect. and then there is halk tons like 30 is 2.5 ton and 42 is 3.5 ton.
What is wrong with there ac?
IDK, but they said the outside unit needs replaced and the big one inside does as well. Compressor is out somewhere as well as other problems
I have a 8000 BTU in my bedroom and it cools it off plenty fast, on LOW. And my bedroom used to be a 2 car garage.
Yeah the compressor is in the outside unit. And then the rest of the unit is old so they need to do that as well.
Just wondering since i do heating and air for a living do you happen to know what size it is and what they got quoted to replace it. I am just wondering what the going rate down there is. You can pm me if you want and if you dont feel like saying thats fine. I just see a lot of price swing and dont want them to pay to much. Thanks
I replaced my original 1971 unit in 2006. I was a lot of money and I got all the extras I could afford but the difference was dramatic. $140 per month less electrical during the summer plus all the other goodies. Those window units will devour electricity.
I took out a lateral mount 6 SEAR outside unit and put in a 3 ton 13 SEAR. I also changed all the inside stuff. Yes, it was a lot of dough...I took money out of my 401K to do it along with new insulated garage doors to replace the original Masonite doors....but it saves enough to pay for itself in less than four years....plus the house is worth more.
I think im just going to get a couple units for now until they can save up to replace the entire thing. Texas heat is harsh
lol yeah he was helpiung me yesterday to make sure I wasn't getting jipped on a price for a whole new system. Thats what my parents unltimately want, but no money forthat right now
I'm a licensed A/C tech also Ducky and can get A/C units also
Oh God...really? Dave, don't listen to Kurt. He has NO clue. :D
Texas License # 22204, had it since 2002. Home A/C's are easy to fix... it's BAS controlled Chiller systems that are fun and is why I was in Wisconsin for training back in Feb. Ducky. I will blow away any price you can get from any company... as Matt can atest also, price's can be rediculously high and we don't want you getting bad equipment either.
