i have a 88 rx-7, and a 6.0... so would it be a great idea to combine the two?
Thats a badass idea, that thing would be a drift king!!
no drift king, just a drag car. maybe start with nitrous until i buy turbo for it.
yes, good idea!!!
It would scream for sure.
sounds good, how much does that rx7 weigh??
i think the 2nd gens weigh, 1800-2000lbs, i know the first gens weighed 1600, second gens added a few more pounds
but i'd get it down to 1700 with taking weight out, but then the weight of motor and trans and narrowed ford 9"
Probably more than that. A VW powered dune buggy weighs 1600. It could be fast but can a small axle and suspension take so much abuse without being beefed?
japanese people figured something out right... second gen's have IRS so...i might switch it out with something maybe a thunderbird irs
lol the 6.0's gonna weigh more than the rx7 hahahaa
well nevermind, we crushed the rx-7 last time the crusher was in town.
k just get another one then cause i still love that idea
I had a second gen with a BIG turbo. made about 500hp. It weighed 2900 with me in it. Had full interior with ac. That car would be a monster with the 6.0!!!
At least we have proven it's more than 1600 lbs....
scratch that, i found one, my buddy has 2 of them, one was used for parts to his other one, its a convertible, could do a bad ass roll cage in it
I am a huge fan of RX7s, let alone one with an LS motor in it! I say do it...they are plenty of peeps out there who have done a third gen/LS1 swap. Plenty of parts and info from people who have already swapped...
Good idea.

I know someone that had a sbc 400 with a powerglide and a 9" rear.. Its almost ready for the new setup, but he is trying to keep it a secret.. My guess is some ls motor wtih at least a 200 shot..
Its not a dumb idea. Its a GREAT idea.
Leave the rotary in it and put a turbo the size of Casey's in front of it.
i could do that.... i have a turbo manifold for the rotary motor....
good luck with that.... prolly just stick to the 6.0 maybe with some boost, but for sure a cam and nitrous.
I love rx7 old or newer problem with the 6.0 is they are heavy compared to the ls1 or any alluminum motor, ls1 arnt much heavyer than the rotory (which are junk and yes they can make power but apex seals really? Just not a good idea. If u want straight drag car then ok for the 6.0 but its an rx7 best on turns-drift-street imo
the ls1 is lighter than the rotory
if iw as gonna build a rotary motor, i'd buy the 20b and put a single big turbo on it! still might do the 6.0, weight really isnt a big deal, already found the conversion kit and everything for it
There are aluminum 6.0's and all the Wankel engines I've seen were a lot smaller than a V-8.
well now i was thrown into another issue with the rx-7, i remembered that the one im gettin from him is the one he stole the vin #'s off of for his other rx7 that didnt have a title, and i really dont want a felony sittin in my hands.
so i got two different options, i got a 86 camaro that we have a narrowed 9'' for, or i found a 87 thunderbird today, but i have 2 different motor options, the 6.0 or my zz3 crate motor 350hp but we have added a bigger cam and different intake and carb set-up. its running 12.3's in our malibu that we have to coast through the traps and letting out at the 1000ft mark.
6.0 in the Maro FTW
