what do you guys think of them? anybody has past experiences with them, good or bad? They are kinda close to me which is i guess maybe an advantage even though i was thinking FLT, but it would be much easier.....

I know plenty of ppl that have had good success with them in the houston area. I personally run FLT, but PB has some good trannies as well
Obviously my opinion is biased. Personally I do know they do not put the amount of work nor the amount of parts in their units like we do. I would look closely at the build sheets between the two and make your decision from there. You will find we give you the most for your money. Vince
^ i think you do too, however my only thing is they are maybe 45minutes to an hour from my house across the PA line which i suppose is an advantage.
Friend put one on his camaro. The first one failed within a day and the second one just doesn't seem right.
hmmm
pb built me a great tranny. skeet, and blue cajun are running them too. wheatley just ordered him one up. i think you cant go wrong with either company.
i know a couple ppl that run pb trannys, never had any problems with them
TX and Blue I think I remember you guys having an issue shortly after your installs. I know they have great customer service but you should not have to be fixing new transmissions. Good to hear they are working for you now. Vince
Thanks for inquiring with Monster Transmission. Our 4L60E HD MegaMonster transmission for the 2002 Suburban 2wd 5.3L will handle 500 horsepower and is priced at $1795.00. A step-up torque converter will stall at 1800-2000 and cost $299.00, with the stock 1397 stall costing $249.00. Shipping is free to a business and $25.00 to a residential address.
What do you guys think of this quote?
i did mess one up, but i dont think there is a 4l60 out there that can handle my right foot haha. it was also replaced ASAP. on the other side, ive seen some of your units fail too. stuff happens. theres no such thing as a bullet proof transmission.
+1...I would go with the company that is closest and provides the best customer service. S*** does happen, but it's the company that makes it right when things go wrong. For example, if you have one go out on you just after warranty has expired and they charge you an arm and a leg to fix it, is probably not a good thing (ask me how I know).:nono:
Yep. It's all kinda the same thing.
IIRC you had an issue with 4th gear and you had to do some repairs on the original unit. Your right things do happen but when you get them in my opinion they better work. That is why we have a Dyno to ensure us this does not happen. As I said in my last post good to hear things are working for you. Vince
If I remember correctly we upgraded your trans with a billet piston for the input drum and repaired the unit for a very fair price. $250 labor, $250 shipping round trip from Chicago/Texas, and $200 parts. Which included a FLT master kit and also the upgraded billet piston. Then you added the billet input and output shafts which we gave you for a discounted price from what is listed on our site. This is one of those cases where a broken piston was an issue. The obvious is why we currently have a solution to the problem and they are being installed in all level 4 and 5 units. Your truck makes good power and stuff happens. I read a bunch of posts from you about how you beat the hell out of the original unit. NOS, turbo...... and so on. It is what it is. Not to mention how soon we got your trans turned around and also upgraded at the last moment. Keep in mind when your trans was sent back in I was away for the holidays visiting my parents out of state. As soon as I returned I put it together for you. I personally feel that you were treated very well however I guess my efforts we unappreciated. Good luck in the future. Vince
I don't have one from FLT, but since I have been posting regularly, I've never heard anything bad about them (in fact, quite the opposite), and the next time my trans goes out (which it will) I plan on getting it from FLT. Just my 2 cents
you remember correct vince. after some hard miles, i stretched the band and had to add a washer to the servo to get it shifting into 4th gear again. then i burnt the clutches. this is in a 400+ HP extended cab truck. my tuner still tells me that i beat on my truck more than any customer he has. my truck is a toy, and i drive it like a toy. most of the time it is WOT, 1st gear drops, 1st gear "hopping" as i like to call it haha...i still pull trailers and boats with my 3800ihs converter too. as long as the trans doesnt get over 200 on the dummy guage ill keep pulling.
as a tranny builder, how many customers have you had crack 3 flywheels and sheer the converter bolts out twice in a street truck. im not making massive horsepower to do this. i just abuse the dog out of my truck. it has drag radials on the street and slicks on the track. my transmission never gets a break unless it is raining.
also, one of my good buddies burnt the clutches in one of your units with a 315HP single cab in less than a year. like i said before...its a POS 4l60e and stuff happens. if i had the chance, i wouldnt hesitate to put one of your units under my truck.
theres bad floating around about everybody. thats what sucks about online feedback. one oops screws up 10,000 pats on the back. and you only seem to hear back from the ones who have problems.
FLT for me .Good customer service and prompt shipping for everything ive purchased, very helpful.
I'm not looking to bash anyone but the facts must be known. I have NEVER run nitrous on my truck. I make an occaisional trip to the track. By no means do I beat on my truck but I don't drive like a grandma either. According to Andy at your shop, when he disassembled the trans, he said it looked like it had been well taken care of. The reason for my frustration is that I knew it was out of warranty and was going to take it to a local builder until some guys on here said to give you a call and you would help me out. I talked to Chuck and he said he would "help me out" if I sent it back. I asked him how long the turn around would be since this is a DD and he said about a week. 3 weeks later I had to go pick up my trans from the delivery company since they didn't have enough drivers to get it delivered before Christmas. Yes, I did upgrade input and output shafts. That's why I said the total that I was charged was $700 not $1700. In my opinion, if this piston was a known issue then I shouldn't have been charged $700. I haven't been posting all over the place about this since things do happen and I hope as a business you learned from this as much as I did.
i just want something to hold a cam, stall and LT's and tune with no problems....is that asking too much?
man go with what you think is best, specially if pb lives close to ya, you'll save on shipping,i run a 4l60e from pb putting down 450 + to the wheels with NO issues, i also just bought a second hand flt 4l60e level 5, which vince mentioned if i ever needed anything for it or whatsoever to give him a shout since he knows about the tranny. even though its behind a stock 6.0 there will be a magnacharger or kennebelle sitting on top of it by summers end!!! basically i wouldnt hesitate to use either one of these professional builders to build a tranny for me :) with that said, good luck on who you choose!! AND HOPE ALL GOES WELL FOR YA
When I get the cash I will be going with PerformanBuilt transmissions. I have talked to Frank threw PM's and he is a stand up guy. Plus they are have a offer going on right now for a 2 year warranty. Frank does not know how long that is going on for. Also read on the web sites on both company's, I know that PB offers a free shipping on there transmissions.
I have heard a little of good and bad on both company's, it is all going to come down to personal choice.
My reasons that I am going with PB transmissions is that they offer a lay-a-way program and they are about a hour away from me.
Either way I think that you will be happy with what you decide on.
that is correct Vince.
thanks for voiceing your concern.
