ive been thinking about changing up my exhaust a little.
right now ive got 2.5" into a dynomax ultra-flo x muffler, the one with the built in x-pipe hen dumped before the rear axel.
what ive thought about doing is either keeping the 2.5 until they get past the trans crossmember then making it into a 3" with a x-pipe and then 2 mufflers of some sort. or somehow merging it into a 4" single and then coming out the side before the rear tire with both.
what is everyones thoughts?
my buddy has a mufflex exhaust on his f-body, its 3in ory to 4in, 4in allthe way back to the muffler, the 4in tail pipe tucked up behind the bumper. but that was on a procharged 383, i dont think you neeeed anything that extreme. but if you do, it will sound great.
i might be wrong, but i doubt i would loose anything if i made the exhaust bigger since ill still have a good but of it 2.5". im just tired of the way it sounds and dont think it sounds very good at all on top of that
i wish i had a sound clip of my cousins 5.3, its was 3in true duals with a h-pipe and flows with 3in dumps. it sounded good but lost some bottom end, he had 3in from the manifolds.
ok, so now im really gona try to get this done soon!!! im in panama city, fl right now doin stuff with my race car, and on the way down i thought i could hear some kind of rattle coming from the exhaust. and now while i was sitting in the parking lot hooking up my trailer theres definitely a bad rattle coming from the muffler. so i guess something inside broke loose... what do you guys think i should do??
Make the dealer repair/replace it. If you want a new exhaust, get this one fixed first then sell the new one to offset the cost of aftermarket.
it already is all aftermarket, its the dynomax ultraflo-x muffler
call them and complain. THey should send you a new one out. I think Virgil went through a couple of them, like your's they fell apart.
BTW, I don't see that on your list of mods.
ill call them tomorrow, but i dont really want to run the same exhaust, maybe if i can get another free muffler ill just sell it...
do any of the things i said in my first post sound like good ideas? or would you do something different?
Hahahaha I have a stock system cat-back for an 09 1500 CCSB 6.2/6-speed Silverado 4X4. Come get it $100. :LOL:
what do you guy think about this muffler? would it be alright, or do i just need to get a real x or y pipe and not use a muffler to merge everything together?

If you were wanting to do magnaflows see if virgil still has the two he bought for his. They were single in and single out. Run off your long tubes into a x pipe and then to the two mags. Would sound beastly IMO

so, I just got Virgil's old mufflers, and the more I think about it, my truck will be ridiculously loud with them!! So I've been thinking about maybe putting a flowmaster and then the magnaflows I just got as a resonator... what do you guys think about this?
Actually magnaflows arent as loud at idle as you are thinking mitch. Mine is pretty mellow unless I really stomp on it. I stay just throw the mags on there and let it bump. Nothing wrong with loud. You got a good system in there anyway :thumb:

I also have the ultra flo x.. looked like a great idea thought it would sound great eh for my dad maybe... I do like the rumble you get when your cruising and let off the gas when she coasts down. I'm thinkin about long tube headers 2.5's into an H and then dynomax bullets.. I don't want to sound like a straight pipe pile of crap but i don't mind if you hear me coming keep me occupied when I'm on those long trips and there are no radio stations
My Magnaflo is real quiet at idle.
well, just picked it up from the exhaust shop. WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!! it sounds soo much cleaner and crisper at WOT and a little louder at idle, but not too much. It is louder at WOT, but not a whole lot. I'm still thinking about merging the two pipes into a single 3.5'', but idk. but i love the new exhaust!!!!! :D

I had those same mufflers on my 6.0 with, and when I put my lt's on I still wanted something different. So I went with a single aero turbine 3.5", and it's pure sex way better than the magnablows.Quote:

and i forgot to say before, but he moved the o2 sensors to the collectors, and the CEL still hasn't come back on, so maybe that was the problem!!!
